Pioneers win 11th of 2007

The Alfred State College men's basketball team won a hard fought physical contest with SUNY Orange, 64-53, on Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Pioneers end the 2007 portion of the season winners of three straight and 11-4 overall.  The Colts fall to 3-7 on the year.

Dusty Marshall (Newfield) and Fran Lantigua (Jamestown) each finished with 13 points to lead A-State.  Jerome Hall (Cicero North Syracuse) chipped in 11 points in his second start of the season while Cerrone Jackson (Forrest Hills) added six points and eight assists.  Shamar Anderson (Cardinal Hayes) came off the bench and chipped in six while Dan Foley (Irondequoit) added five.  Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) finished the day with five points, seven rebounds, and six blocks.

Conor Cornine led Orange and all scorers with 15 points and 11 rebounds while 7-2 center Rinny Ngot finished with 11 points and eight boards.  Tony Surin came off the bench and finished with eight points while Malik Jenkins had seven points and nine rebounds

Both teams struggled shooting with ASC shooting just 34.4% (21 for 61) while Orange shot 27% (17 for 63).  The Pioneers were 7 for 19 from three and 15 for 17 from the foul line while the Colts were 3 for 9 from three and 16 for 29 from the charity stripe.  Orange held a 49 to 44 advantage on the boards.

The Pioneers return to action on January 22 when they open up Western New York Athletic Conference play with a 7:30 p.m. contest with JCC-Olean.
