Lady Pioneers hang tough but fall at CCRI

Submitted by WelkerPM on Sat, 12/08/2007 - 4:39pm

The Alfred State College women's basketball team hung tough with #18 CC of Rhode Island but the Lady Knights used a strong second half en route to a 69-50 victory.  The Lady Pioneers five game winning streak was snapped and the team sits at 6-3 on the season while CCRI improves to 6-2.

CCRI led 37-33 at half and the game was still within striking distance for the Lady Pioneers until the final five minutes when the Knights pushed the lead out.

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) led Alfred State with 15 points while Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) chipped in 12 points.

The Lady Pioneers continue their road trip to New England with a Noon tip-off versus Dean College on Sunday.  ASC and Dean met last Saturday in the championship game of the ASC Tournament with the Lady Pioneers coming out on top 63-53.
