Lounsberry Moderates Panel

Dr. Gary Lounsberry, associate professor, Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at Alfred State College, recently moderated a research panel presenting a series of papers on the theme "Evidence-based Practice in Public Health Social Work" at the annual conference of the American Public Health Association meeting in Washington, D.C., Nov. 3-7, 2007.

Active in APHA for over 27 years in a variety of appointed and elected leadership positions, Lounsberry is currently entering his second elected term as the Social Work representative on the Governing Council of APHA.

Lounsberry, of Hornell, teaches courses in general and abnormal psychology as well as oversees student practicums.  He holds a PhD in social work from the University of Pittsburgh, a master's degree in public health from the University of Pittsburgh, a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), and a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology from the University of Rochester.

Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Lounsberry served in similar capacities at Florida Gulf Coast University, University of South Florida, Barry University, University of Oklahoma, and Rogers State University (Claremore, OK), to name a few.  Lounsberry has also served in a variety of clinical settings including both at institutions and as a private practitioner.

The Scio Central School graduate is the son of Alton and Corabelle Lounsberry, Scio.  He is married to the former Chere Thayer; they are the parents of two adult daughters.
