A-State falls to Mercyhurst

The Alfred State College wrestling team couldn't climb out of an early hole and fell in their season opening dual match 30-12 to Mercyhurst North East.

Mercyhurst North East earned pins in the first two matches of the night to grab a 12-0 lead before the Pioneers cut the lead to 12-9 with three straight victories.

Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) downed James Henderson 10-3 at 133 lbs to get things started.  Devin Hennessey (Bridgewater Raynham) downed Shaun Spath 5-2 to make it 12-6 after the 141 lb. bout.  Aaron Parks (Hornell) made it 12-9 with a 5-3 decision over Ryan Donovan at 149.

The Saints put the match out of reach with three straight wins at 157, 165, and 174 to build a 27-9 lead.

Jordan Hughson (Holley) earned a 4-1 victory over Mike Powell at 184 before the night ended with another Saint victory at 197.

The Pioneers have over a week off before hosting Jamestown CC on Saturday, November 17 in another WNYAC battle.
