Pioneers Win Season Opener

The Alfred State College men's basketball team started their 2007-08 campaign with a 90-70 victory over Rockland CC in the first day of the Monroe CC Classic on Saturday evening.

Jimmie Dillard (Gates Chili) lead the Pioneers with 22 points while Cerrone Jackson (Forrest Hills) finished with 14 points, eight steals and six assists.  Dusty Marshall (Newfield) narrowly missed a triple double finishing with 13 points, nine steals, nine rebounds, and five assists.  Fran Lantigua (Jamestown) added 10 points while Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

The Pioneers held a 47-25 lead at halftime.

The Blue and Gold take on Delaware Tech in the second day of the MCC Classic on Sunday.  Opening tip-off is at 1 p.m.
