New Professional Staff Hires

Several new professional staff members have joined the Alfred State College community.

Among the new hires were Ann Baldwin, Barbara Brockway, Jesse Cole, Hollie Hall, Stephanie Hoyer, Martha McGee, Caitlin Mizanin, Jaime Palmatier, Nicole Parise, Erica Rodriguez, and Brice Weigman.

Baldwin, of Andover, has been hired as a counselor in the Admissions Office where she will travel in the five boroughs of New York City, New Jersey, and selected areas of Ohio and Illinois. She has extensive experience in admissions and other areas of higher education.

Brockway, of Dansville, has been hired as a secretary in the Admissions Office.  Prior to joining the ASC staff, Brockway worked for NYSDOCS.  She holds an associate in applied science degree in business from Hilbert College.

Cole, of Avon, has been hired as a University police officer, where he serves to enforce federal, state, and local laws and college regulations, and supports a safe learning environment.  Prior to joining the ASC police force, Cole worked as an EMT for Monroe, Livingston, and Ontario counties.  He holds a bachelor of science degree from SUNY Oswego.

Hall, of Andover, has been hired as a counselor in Counseling Services, where she provides personal counseling to ASC students.  Prior to joining the ASC staff, Hall worked as a clinical counselor at the Counseling Center in Wellsville and as a sociotherapist at Crestwood Children's Center in Rochester.

Hall holds a master of science degree in education from Alfred University and a bachelor of science degree from SUNY Brockport.

Hoyer, of Wellsville, has been hired as a financial aid intern in the college's Financial Aid Office where she processes and packages student financial aid allowances.  Prior to joining the ASC staff, Hoyer worked for the Allegany Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Inc., Wellsville; Dresser-Rand, Wellsville; and Alfred State College.  She holds a bachelor of arts in communication studies from Alfred University and an associate in arts degree in humanities from Alfred State College.

McGee, of Wellsville, has been hired as the assistant director of Student Accounts where she is responsible for daily reconciliation and bank deposits.  She assists with the maintenance of financial accounts and records and distribution of revenue.

Prior to joining the ASC staff, McGee worked as an accountant for Allegany County Employment and Training Center, Belmont and as a staff accountant for Adelphia Business Solutions, Coudersport, PA.

She holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Alfred University and an associate's degree in accounting from Alfred State College.

The Notre Dame (Batavia) High School graduate is the wife of Thomas; they are the parents of three grown sons.

Mizanin, of Pine Hill, NJ, has been hired as a residence director in the division of Residential Life where she supervises and enforces college regulations and policies; serves as a liaison between students and faculty and administration; selects, trains, and supervises student staff; and is responsible for individual and group counseling within the residence hall.       

Mizanin holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Arcadia University (Philadelphia) and is studying for a master of arts degree in communication and leadership studies from Gonzaga University (Spokane).

The Philadelphia native is the daughter of Jeanne Mizanin of Pine Hill, NJ.

Palmatier, of Whitesville, has been hired as a staff assistant in the Health Services Department where she is responsible for student medical records, immunization surveillance, and clerical duties. 

Prior to joining the ASC staff, Palmatier worked as an administrative assistant for Physician Practice Management at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA; and as office coordinator for Coudersport Primary Care at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital.

Palmatier holds an associate's degree in medical office assisting from Alfred State College.

The Galeton (PA) Area High School graduate is the wife of Derek Palmatier; they are the parents of toddler Alexys.

Parise, of Hornell, has been hired as the secretary to the president.  In this capacity, Parise serves as receptionist for the office, makes travel arrangements for the president, prepares and distributes correspondence, and performs routine secretarial duties.

Prior to assuming the responsibilities in the president's office, Parise served in the ASC Admissions Office; the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation; DeVeaux Woods State Park, and Beaver Island State Park.

The Niagara Falls High School graduate is the daughter of Debbie and Paul Parise, Niagara Falls.

Rodriguez, of NYC, has been hired as a residence director in the division of Residential Life where she supervises and enforces college regulations and policies; serves as a liaison between students and faculty and administration; selects, trains, and supervises student staff; and is responsible for individual and group counseling within the residence hall.       

Rodriguez holds a degree in psychology from Mercy College. The Manhattan Center High School Graduate is the mother of infant Jacob.

Weigman, of Belfast, has been hired as the assistant director of budget development.

Prior to joining the ASC staff, Weigman was the director of Business Affairs at the NYS College of Ceramics; the supervisor of finance and cost accounting at Dresser-Rand, Wellsville; a senior internal auditor at Merrill Lynch and Co., NYC; and audit senior at Seidman and Seidman BDO, Jamestown; and an accountant at Goodman and Steiner, Westchester.

Weigman holds a bachelor of science degree from SUNY Fredonia.  He is also a certified public accountant.

The Croton Harmon (Croton-on-Hudson) High School graduate is the son of Joseph and Marie Weigman, Croton-on-Hudson; he is married to the former Sue Olson; they are the parents of two young sons.

Additionally, several staff members have assumed new positions.  These include

Andy Bayus, of Alfred, who has been named director of college housing where he is responsible for all aspects of college housing and administers and assesses programs related to the residential experience of Alfred State students. As part of the senior leadership team for the Department of Student Life, Bayus fosters the underlying tenets of student development and the overall maturation process of residential students and with student staff in the Student Life area.

Bayus has held numerous positions at the college in the student affairs area, including assistant director of college housing, acting assistant director of college housing, residence hall coordinator, and residence hall intern.  He founded the Outdoor Recreation Club in 1988 and continues to serve as its adviser with his wife Kathy.

He holds a master of arts degree in student counseling and a bachelor of science degree in art education, both from Edinboro State College.  He is married to the former Kathleen Crandall; they are the parents of three sons, all at home.

Neil Benedict, Wellsville, has been named associate vice president for Student Life.  Benedict has held numerous positions at college since joining the staff in 1981, including financial aid counselor, assistant director of financial aid, director of campus activities and intramurals (Wellsville campus), and associate dean for student life.

Benedict holds a master of professional studies degree from Alfred University and a bachelor of science degree from Ithaca College. He is married to the former Eva Russell; they are the parents of two adult daughters.

Glen Cline, of Scio, has been appointed to director (from assistant director) of procurement and payment services, where he is responsible for assisting all college faculty and staff in obtaining the goods and services required to perform their functions through proper policies and procedures as set in place by SUNY and the state of New York as well as ensuring payments made to vendors also follow policies put in place by SUNY and NYS. He is also responsible for contracts to include preparation of documents, bid solicitation, contractor/vendor bidder interface. 

Cline holds a BAS and an AAS in business administration from Empire State College.

He is the son of Naomi Cline, Belmont, and the late Keith Cline.

The Angelica Central School graduate is married to the former Patricia Pasquale.  They are the parents of daughters Casey and Paula Markevicz.

Marshelle Gillette, Almond, has been named director of Facilities Services where she has ultimate responsibility for capital and residential construction projects in excess of $20 million, including campus lets, management of facilities capital, residential and minor rehab budgets, and day-to-day facilities services operations, including maintenance of buildings and grounds.  Prior to assuming this position, Gillette served for over 20 years as director of procurement and payment services at the college. 

Gillette holds an associate's degree in accounting from Empire State College and is studying for a bachelor of science degree in business management from Empire State College.

The Alfred-Almond Central School graduate is the daughter of Keith and Sally Doty, Almond.  She is married to David Gillette; they are the parents of a grown son, Nathan.

Deborah Goodrich, Alfred Station, has been named associate vice president for enrollment management, where she continues to manage the Admissions and document processing functions at the college and assumes greater responsibility for the recruitment and retention of students. 

Goodrich joined the Alfred State College professional staff in 1978 and moved through the ranks from admissions counselor, to assistant director, to associate director, to director in 1990 before being named associate vice president. 

Goodrich holds an associate's degree from Erie County Community College, a bachelor's degree from SUNY at Buffalo, and a master's degree in student personnel administration from SUC at Buffalo.  She is married to Jeffrey Goodrich; they are the parents of one son, still at home.

Sarah Spencer, Alfred, has been named the director of Student Affairs at the Wellsville campus. Prior to accepting this position, Sarah briefly served as a tutor/supplemental instruction coordinator in the Learning Center. Prior to joining the ASC professional staff, Spencer served as student life coordinator at Lycoming College and assistant commuter adviser at Miami University. She has also served in the capacity of an adjunct instructor at a number of colleges. She holds a bachelor of arts in sociology from Western New England College and a master of science degree in college student personnel from Miami University.

Other hires include Allison Keddie, residence hall director, Residential Life, and Edward Kenney, police officer, University Police.
