Alfred State Falls to Erie
The Alfred State College football team never could get their offense going and fell 24-6 to Erie CC in a Northeast Football Conference contest played in very windy conditions in Orchard Park. ECC clinches a spot in the Region III Championship game and improves to 5-2 (3-2 NFC) on the year while ASC falls to 3-5 (0-3 NFC).
Ammar Dyson connected with Aaron Valentin on a 12-yard pass play with 7:28 remaining in the 1st quarter to give the Kats a 7-0 lead.
Alfred answered right back just over two minutes later when Robbie Fagan (Miami, FL) scored from six yards out. The Pioneers drive was set up by a 50-yard kickoff return by Calvin Corbin (Winslow, NJ). The PAT failed.
John Rachuna connected on 50-yard field goal with 6:22 remaining in the 2nd quarter to send Erie into half with a 10-6 lead.
Dyson put the game out of reach with two touchdown passes in the 2nd half. He hit Mike Marr on a 19-yard pass play with 8:36 remaining in the 3rd quarter and hit Yousif Youboty on a 20-yard pass play with 6:40 remaining in the 4th quarter.
The Kats held a 293 to 229 yard advantage. Dyson finished 9 for 21 for 104 yards and rushed for 54 yards on 13 carries. Fuquan Borum led the rushing attack with 56 yards on six carries.
Grant Tamme (Danville, KY) finished 13 for 36 for 137 yards. Corbin accumulated 85 yards on 15 carries, Geoff Hicks (Buffalo/Cleveleand Hill) caught six passes for 81 yards, and Mike Septh (Monroe Woodbury) caught five passes for 50 yards.
Ackim Thomas led Erie with seven tackles while Carmen Wolfe added six. Cortez Robinson record five tackles and three sacks.
Brandon Moyer (Cazenovia) led A-State with 11 tackles while Nick Monroe (Irondequoit) added nine tackles. Darryl Phillips (Rochester/Wilson) recovered a fumble while Kyle Martin (New Paltz) forced a fumble.
The Pioneers play their final home game of the season next Saturday when they host Lackawanna College. Opening kick-off at Maple City Park is scheduled for 1 p.m.
