Pioneers down Berean 27-6
Alfred State forced seven turnovers and the offense accumulated 437 yard in a 27-6 victory over Berean Institute at Maple City Park on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 3-4 on the year and snap a three game losing streak.
John Chisolm (Trenton, NJ) got A-State on the board with nine seconds left in the 1st quarter when he returned an interception eight yards for a score. With the interception Chisolm broke the ASC single season record for interceptions. He added another interception later in the game and now has nine on the season. The PAT was missed.
The Bears answered right back with 8:29 remaining in the half when Davon Myers connected with Dajuan Jenkins on a 11-yard scoring strike to cap a 11 play, 63-yard drive. The two point conversion failed.
Mike Septh (Monroe Woodbury) caught a halfback pass from Jason Brand (Springfield, VA) with 6:37 remaining in the half to make it 12-6. Jermell Corbitt (Naples, FL) found Geoff Hicks (Buffalo/Cleveland Hill) on a four yard scoring pass to make it 18-6 with 36 seconds left. Corbitt hit Septh on the two-point conversion to make it 20-6.
Corbitt found Septh on a 31-yard scoring strike to cap the scoring with 6:13 remaining in the 3rd quarter to cap the scoring.
Corbitt finished the day 22 for 43 for 294 yards and two scores. Septh recorded his fifth 100-yard game of the season finishing with 127 yards and two scores on seven catches. Calvin Corbin (Winslow, NJ) rushed for 75 yards, Brand had 77 yards receiving, and Hicks finished with 69 yards on five catches.
Myers finished the day 9 for 27 for 116 yards to pace the Bears offense . Bobby Curry had two catches for 35 yards and Jenkins finished with two catches for 34 yards.
Liorry Herrisnor (Herbert Leman) and Chisolm each finished with two interceptions while Brian Abrams (Saranac Lake) and Chuck Jackson (Irondequoit) each picked off a pass. Nick Monroe (Irondequoit) finished with six tackles and two sacks while Brandon Moyer (Cazenovia) added six tackles as well. Matt Perry (Belle Vernon, PA), Nick LaDuca (Webster Thomas), Chris Libutti (Greece Arcadia), Jeremy Wernick (Ellenville), and Andy Eichas (Hilton) each were credited with sacks.
Jamal Jackson led Berean with nine tackles and a sack while Justin Rey finished with seven tackles. Sidney Roane was credited with two sacks.
The Pioneers hit the road next Saturday when they travel to Erie CC for a Northeast Football Conference battle with the Kats. The winner of the contest will take on Hudson Valley CC in the inaugural Region III Championship game on November 10. Opening kick-off from Orchard Park will take place at 1 p.m.
