New Bachelor of Science Degree in Digital Media and Animation
Alfred State College officials have announced the launch of a new bachelor of science degree in digital media and animation this fall following the recent approval of the program by the State University of New York.
The degree is an extension of the college's rapidly growing associate degree program in computer art and design. The new program will equip graduates with a skill set necessary to excel in today's computer art and animation fields. Students enrolled in the program will have access to new Mac and PC labs with state-of-the-art digital equipment in addition to accomplished, hands-on faculty.
The addition of the digital media and animation bachelor of science degree program adds a new dimension to our program offerings at Alfred. Now our students in the associate degree curriculum no longer need to look to outside transfer institutions for an opportunity to continue their education in the exciting world of digital animation. Two-year graduates from other colleges will also be welcome to transfer into our program to pursue a bachelor of science degree. Graduates will have doors opened for advanced entry-level positions in the computer animation and special effects fields as well as the video gaming industry.
Students will receive instruction in the traditional arts to enhance their artistic creativity. They will also learn industry-standard software applications and gain proficiency in computer graphics-related technology. Along with expanding facilities and faculty, the college has welcomed its first junior class this fall with an expected graduation date of May 2009.
