Baseball Team wins three of four over the weekend

The Alfred State College baseball team wrapped up the fall regular season by winning three of four contests over the weekend.  The Pioneers downed Jamestown CC 8-1 & 6-1 on Saturday and then split with Genesee CC, L 9-1 & W 3-1.

The Blue and Gold will enter next week's Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament with a 9-5 overall record and a 8-4 WNYAC mark.

Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) and Derek Speaker (Starpoint) each were 2 for 4 with an RBI in the game one victory over Jamestown.  Kevin Underhill (Somers), Karl Kofmel (Ottawa, ONT.), and Jeff Paul (Horseheads) each finished with RBI.

Craig Kosnikowski (N. Tonawanda) tossed a complete game two hitter to earn the win.  He walked five and struck out seven.

Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) led the offense with a 2 for 3, 1 RBI performance in game two.  The Pioneers scored four runs in the 6th to break open a 2-1 contest.  Andrew Foster (Clarkson, ONT) allowed just two hits in seven innings to earn his third win of the fall.  He struck out seven while walking just two.

Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the first game vs. Genesee with an RBI single but the Cougars answered back with nine unanswered runs.  Jeff Miller (N. Tonawanda) was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3.

In the nightcap, ASC took advantage of two errors and a clutch RBI single by Underhill to take a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning.  GCC answered back with a run in the 4th but couldn't get any closer.  Underhill walked with the bases loaded in the 6th inning to give the Pioneers an insurance run.

Jeff Benchich (Millbrook) tossed a complete game seven hitter to earn the win.  The lone run he gave up was unearned.  He struck out four and walked four.
