Pioneers shutout Finger Lakes

The Alfred State College men's soccer team scored two 2nd half goals en route to a 2-0 shutout of Finger Lakes CC on Thursday afternoon to earn their first victory of the season.  The Pioneers are now 1-4-1 on the season while the Lakers fall to 2-4.

After a scoreless 1st half the Pioneers got on the board in the 21st minute of the 2nd half when Eric Nichols (Holland) scored after getting a crossing pass from Dom Bisone (Tonawanda).  Tyler Paulsen (Letchworth) put the game out of reach in the final seconds of the game when he danced past a couple defenders and beat the Laker goaltender for his second goal of the year.

Josh Kashuba (Marathon) made four saves in net before leaving 18 minutes into the second half with an injury after making an outstanding diving save.  Tommy Vitro (Margaretville) came in on relief and made two saves.

Both teams finished with 10 shots on goal.

The Blue and Gold head to SUNY Jefferson for a 3:30 p.m. contest vs. the Cannoneers on Saturday afternoon.
