Pios Split with Penn Tech

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version
The Alfred State College baseball team split a non-league doubleheader at Penn Tech in Williamsport on Sunday afternoon.  The Blue and Gold fell 3-2 in the opener and won the nightcap 3-1.  ASC is now 3-1 on the year.

Penn Tech plated three runs in the 1st inning and held the Pioneers off the scoreboard until the 6th inning.  ASC cut it to 3-1 on a RBI single by Kevin Underhill (Somers) that scored Derek Speaker (Starpoint).  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) connected on a solo homer in the 7th inning but the Pioneers couldn't draw any closer.  Vargas finished 2 for 3 on the day.

Aarol Elliott (Whitesville) allowed just three hits and two earned runs in six innings of work but took the loss.

Andrew Foster (Clarkson, ONT.) tossed a complete game four-hitter to win his collegiate pitching debut.  He walked just two while striking out seven.

Speaker drove home runs in the 3rd and 7th innings to pace the offense.  Ruben Angeles (George Washington) drove home the first run of the game in the 2nd inning.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Niagara CCC for a 1 p.m. WNYAC doubleheader with the Trailblazers.
