Lady Spikers win MVCC Title

The Alfred State College opened up their campaign by winning the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament for the second year in a row.  The Lady Pioneers were a perfect 5-0 on the day.

In pool play the Blue and Gold downed Adirondack CC, 30-14 & 30-16, Fulton Montgomery CC, 30-15 & 30-20, and SUNY Cobleskill, 30-21 & 30-15.  In the semifinals, ASC downed Herkimer CCC, 30-20 & 30-9 to advance to the finals where they knocked off the host Mohawk Valley CC, 30-22 & 30-23.

Brianne McMahon (Buffalo/Sweet Home) was named the tournament MVP after registering 38 digs, 31 kills, and 14 service aces.  Elaina Braun (Waterloo) and Shannon Jablonski (Cheektowaga) were both named All-Tournament after solid days.  Braun finished with 94 assists and 15 kills while Jablonski chipped in 26 digs, 23 service aces, and 19 kills. 

Natalie Gregory (Elma/Iroquois) finished the day with 17 kills while newcomers Georgia Buchholz (Andover) contributed 16 kills and Jeni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) finished with 15 kills.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Erie CC for a 6 p.m. Western New York Athletic Conference contest versus the Lady Kats.
