Lady Pioneers win opener

The Alfred State College women's soccer team shut out Corning CC, 1-0, in their season opener.  The Lady Pioneers out-shot the Red Barons 19 to 6 in the victory.

The lone goal of the game came in the 20th minute of the game when Jody Ninos (Alfred Almond) bended a direct kick just out of the reach of CCC goalie Elise Craver.

Pioneer goalie Philicia Harris (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) made four saves in net to record her 1st career shutout.  Craver finished with 12 saves in net for Corning.

The win was new Head Coach Anne Holmok's first victory in her second stint in charge of the Lady Pioneers soccer program.

The Pioneers begin a busy weekend with a home contest versus SUNY Delhi on Saturday.  Opening kickoff is at 2:30.  The team then travels to Finger Lakes CC on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest.
