What is the difference between SkyDrive and the N: Drive?

Answer:

Each student will have both a SkyDrive and an N: Drive. The N: Drive is a local campus network storage that you can easily use on campus computers. The SkyDrive is only accessible through the Web, and the data is stored on Microsoft’s servers. The N: Drive is 2GB of space, while the SkyDrive is 25GB of storage space. What is my username for Live.com?

Answer:

As of July 12, 2010 - Alfred State College e-mail is being hosted by Microsoft, which means all of the student e-mail accounts were migrated to Live@EDU. Your username will continue to be Username@alfredstate.edu. Your username will still be the first six characters of your last name, the first character in your first name and your middle initial (LLLLLLFM@alfredstate.edu).

E.g., if your name is John E. Smith, your e-mail address/username would be SmithJE@alfredstate.edu. If you do not have a middle initial, it would be SmithJ@alfredstate.edu.

Note: Your username might have a number appended to the end if there are other students with a similar name.

What does Live@EDU mean for me?

Answer:

Microsoft’s Live@EDU is the new host for student e-mail accounts at Alfred State. Live@EDU is the type of account you will have, which will allow you access to certain resources. Having a Live@EDU account means you will have access to many Microsoft resources for free. You will have “cloud-based” storage for documents and pictures as well as access to programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote all right from the Web. However, having a Live@EDU account does not mean your e-mail address will change to Username@Live.edu, it will remain Username@alfredstate.edu.
