Center for Civic Engagement

What is Civic Engagement?

Civic engagement involves being actively involved in the public life of your community- here on campus, Alfred, New York, or beyond. It starts out with you identifying your passion- and then discovering how you can personally make a difference in the life of your community.

Some examples include:

  • Volunteering in the community
  • Political involvement such as voting
  • Advocacy and activism - taking a stand for an important issue
  • Community Education - sharing your knowledge with others
  • Fundraising to raise awareness and support a cause
