Whispering Black

Event Date(s):
Thursday, February 9, 2012 - 8:00pm
Location:
SET 215

Molly Secours addresses the hushed tones often used by those classified as white whenever referring to race. She also illustrates how avoiding meaningful racial discussions only furthers the divide between whites and non-whites—thereby maintaining the benefits of ‘white privilege’ and the injustices of white supremacy. As a cancer survivor, Secours describes the parallels between battling a deadly disease and confronting and disrupting internalized racism.
