Steve Tyrell

Vice President for Student Affairs

Dr. Tyrell comes to us from Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he has served the last two years as Associate Dean for Student Discipline. Prior to MIT, he served eight years as Associate Dean for Student Affairs as Michigan Tech and eleven years in various positions in residence life, student activities and student union operations at SUNY New Paltz. Dr. Tyrell has a PhD in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Tech, a MA in Educational Administration and Supervision and a BA in Speech Communication, both from SUNY New Paltz.

Dr. Tyrell has worked in student life over a period of close to two decades in residence life, Greek life, student activities, student leadership programs, new student orientation, student union operations and judicial affairs. He has specialized in intervention efforts in the disciplinary process as they relate to substance abuse issues, mental health concerns, academic integrity and sexual misconduct. He and his wife Sharon are native New Yorkers from upstate New York. They have two children, Zachary and Emma. His exceptional credentials and broad experience will play a crucial role in helping us achieve our vision of becoming an internationally recognized College of Technology.
