Allegany County Community Action Day, Aug. 28

Alfred State College is partnering with several Allegany County human services agencies to conduct an Allegany County Community Action Day, Saturday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The day is intended to coordinate volunteer groups and individuals to engage in meaningful, high-impact service projects in the Alfred and Wellsville communities; connect with neighbors, students, and fellow community members while making a difference; and build relationships with local non-profit agencies while actively supporting their missions.

ASC Students Volunteer in Haiti

Haiti Relief Trip Spring 2010Dr. Douglas Pierson, (VMD) Alfred State College assistant professor, Agriculture and Veterinary Technology Department, who previously lived and worked as a veterinary field worker in Haiti as part of Christian Veterinary Mission before joining ASC, coordinated a relief trip to Haiti after commencement.

Dr. Douglas Pierson, (VMD) Alfred State College assistant professor, Agriculture and Veterinary Technology Department, who previously lived and worked as a veterinary field worker in Haiti as part of Christian Veterinary Mission before joining ASC, coordinated a relief trip to Haiti after commencement. The original plan was to send one group of volunteers, but there were so many students who volunteered, that instead of one group, Pierson split the students into two teams. Much of the students’ trips were supported through fundraising.

WINS Donates to Area Food Pantries

WINS Donates to Area Food PantriesThe WINS Club recently conducted its Spring fund raiser to donate money for perishable items to area food pantries. Three checks totaling $180 were sent to Alfred Station Food Pantry, the Salvation Army in Wellsville, and Steuben Rural Ministry.

Car Care Awareness Day at ASC

ASC Reclaims Title at National BUV Competition

2010 BUVThe Alfred State College BUV (basic utility vehicle) team returned to prominence by winning first place in the Main Division of the 10th Annual National Basic Utility Vehicle Competition in Indianapolis, IN.

The Alfred State College BUV (basic utility vehicle) team returned to prominence by winning first place in the Main Division of the 10th Annual National Basic Utility Vehicle Competition in Indianapolis, IN.

A BUV is, according to the Institute for Affordable Transportation (IAT) which sponsors the competition, a vehicle for change. Its purpose is to help meet peoples’ everyday needs at the ends of the earth, promote trade, and reduce poverty at a grassroots level.

Football Team to Host Bone Marrow Registry Drive

Head Football Coach Mick Caba and his team will host a Bone Marrow Registry Drive on Wednesday, April 7 in the Student Gathering Place of the Central Dining Hall.  The drive will be held between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Head Football Coach Mick Caba and his team will host a Bone Marrow Registry Drive on Wednesday, April 7 in the Student Gathering Place of the Central Dining Hall. The drive will be held between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

When planning for this event, Caba was asked the question, why host a bone marrow registry drive. His passion for this cause is driven by an experience with a student back in 1973.
