Men Ranked 8th, Women 10th in Latest Track Poll

The Alfred State College men's outdoor track & field team is ranked #8 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll when the women are ranked #10.

The Pioneers competed at the SUNY Brockport Invitational this past weekend.  Pete Francia (Greece Olympia) and Carey Crooker (Addison) led the Pioneers with 2nd place finishes.  Francia was 2nd in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:10 while Crooker was 2nd in the 800 in 2:28.9.

ASC will wrap up their regular season action on Saturday when they travel to SUNY Geneseo for the SUNY G Invitational.

Pioneers Race at Brockport

The Alfred State College outdoor track & field team continued their busy schedule as they competed at the SUNY Brockport Invitational on Saturday.  ASC was one of eight teams that competed in cool and damp conditions.

Track Team Sits in Top Ten

Both the men's and women's Alfred State track & field teams sit in the latest NJCAA Division III top ten.  The women are ranked #5 while the men are ranked #8.

The Lady Pioneers sit behind Mohawk Valley CC, Harper (IL) College, Herkimer CCC, and Gloucester (NJ) CC.  ASC was ranked #8 in last week's poll.

The men are making their debut in the national poll this outdoor season.  SUNY Delhi is currently ranked #1 followed by Harper (IL), College of DuPage (IL), Mohawk Valley CC, Kingsborough CC, and Prince George's (MD) CC.

Francia and Lewis Qualify for Nationals

Pete Francia (Greece Olympia) and Brandon Lewis (Red Creek) qualified for the 2010 NJCAA Division III National Championships with wins at the Blue & Gold tri-meet.  ASC's men finished 2nd with 112.5 points while the women were 3rd with 76 points.

Francia won the 5,000 m in 16:32.84 to qualify for nationals while Lewis won the 1,500 m with a winning time of 4:15.3.  Lewis also finished 2nd in the 800 m (2:00.40).

The Alfred State men's outdoor track & field team finished 8th out of 13 teams at the University of Rochester while the women finished 12th out of 14 teams.  During the competition, four more athletes qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Championships.

Pioneers Impressive in Track Opener

Alfred State opened up the outdoor track & field season with an impressive showing at the ASC Easter Meet.  Pioneer athletes had seven NJCAA Division III National Championship qualifiying performances.

Pam Breedlove (Rochester/East) won the 100 m dash in 13.74 to qualify for nationals.  She also teamed up with Yakima Williams (Brooklyn/Franklin Lane), Marie Philippone (Greene), and Kelsey Wissert (Scio) to win the 4 x 100 relay in 55.54.

Track Cancelled Friday

The 2010 outdoor track & field season opener at Erie CC (Orchard Park) scheduled for Friday afternoon has been cancelled due to forecasted low temperatures.  The Pioneers have now have had their first two meets of the season cancelled.

Outdoor Track Opener Cancelled

The Alfred State College outdoor track & field season opener at Howard (MD) CC has been cancelled.  The Pioneers will now open the 2010 outdoor season on Friday March 26 when they travel to Erie CC to take on the Kats and Finger Lakes CC.

Sparks Finishes 10th at Nationals

Eddie Sparks (Horseheads) earned a 10th place finish in the pole vault as he competed at the 2010 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Eastern Illinois University.

Eddie Sparks (Horseheads) earned a 10th place finish in the pole vault as he competed at the 2010 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Eastern Illinois University.

Sparks, the Region III champion, cleared 13'7.25" to earn 10th place.  Sparks was the lone Pioneer that qualified for the national championships that features every NJCAA school that offers indoor track & field.

The Pioneers now shift their focus to the outdoor season which begins in two weeks at the Howard (MD) CC Invitational.

Five Tracksters Earn All-Region

Five members of the Alfred State College indoor track & field team have earned All-Region honors based on their performances at the Region III Championships.  Pam Breedlove (Rochester/East), Bridget McMahon (Avoca), Pete Francia (Greece Olympia), John Sweeney (Barker), and Eddie Sparks (Horseheads) earned the honor.

Five members of the Alfred State College indoor track & field team have earned All-Region honors based on their performances at the Region III Championships.  Pam Breedlove (Rochester/East), Bridget McMahon (Avoca), Pete Francia (Greece Olympia), John Sweeney (Barker), and Eddie Sparks (Horseheads) earned the honor.

Breedlove was a two-time All-Region selection.  She won the 55 m dash in 7.71 and then won the long jump with a leap of 4.58 m.

McMahon was the champion in the 1 mile run finishing in 5:34.95.
