Arroyo Named New Alfred State Athletic Director

Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals.  Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.

15 Tracksters Earn All-American Honors

Fifteen members of the Alfred State College outdoor track & field team earned All-American honors at the 2011 NJCAA Division III National Championships held at Pioneer Stadium.  All fifteen athletes earned 2nd team honors with 2nd place finishes in their respective events.

Shea McKee (Canisteo Greenwood) led the way with All-American honors in three events.  She was 2nd in the high jump (1.45 m) and was part of the 4x100 (50.75) the 4x400 (4:06.91) relays.

Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Academic Awards Handed Out

The Alfred State College athletic department handed out the Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Academic awards recently at the college's annual end of year banquet.  Cody Dill (Unatego) and Angela Depew (Wellsville) were the recipients of the leadership award, Andy Jones (Milford) and Amber Harding (Fillmore) received the sportsmanship awards, and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda), Charise Nankivell (Hornell), and Andrea Presher (Prattsburgh) won the academic awards.

Murphy and Johnson Named Freshman Athletes of the Year

Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) and Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) were named the 2011 Alfred State College freshman athletes of the year.  Murphy ran to All-American honors in track & field while Johnson punted his way to All-American on the football gridiron.

Parks and Frey Named Senior Athletes of the Year

Mo Parks (Avoca) and JP Frey (Erie, PA) have been named the 2011 Alfred State College senior athletes of the year.  Parks was a two-year member of the soccer and track & field teams while Frey has been a mainstay on the baseball team the past two years.

Pioneer Men and Women Finish Track Nationals in 4th

The Alfred State College outdoor track & field team completed the 2011 NJCAA Division III National Championships with 4th place finishes.  The women scored 83.5 points while the men finished with 61.

On the women's side the Lady Pioneers earned 2nd team All-American honors in three individual events and two relays.  Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) was 2nd in the 400 (58.23), Megan Votava (Alfred Almond) was 2nd in the 100 hurdles (16.77), and Shea McKee (Canisteo Greenwood) was 2nd in the high jump (1.45 m).

Harper Sweeps Track Nationals

Harper College (IL) claimed both the men's and women's titles at the 2011 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The Harper women won by nearly 40 points while the men won by 23.

The Harper women scored 132 points followed by Kingsborough CC's 92.5.  Mohawk Valley CC finished 3rd (90), Alfred State was 4th (83.5), and Howard CC was 5th (78). 

The Harper men scored 152 points finishing ahead of Delhi's 129 points.  Mohawk Valley CC was 3rd (74), Alfred State 4th (61), and Gloucester 5th (58).

322 athletes representing 24 colleges are on their way to Alfred State for the 2011 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

322 athletes representing 24 colleges are on their way to Alfred State for the 2011 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The Pioneers enter the national championships ranked #4 in the NJCAA poll and will look to make their mark as they entertain some of the top talent in two-year athletics.
