Lady Pioneers Ranked 8th, Parks named Goalie of the Week

The Alfred State College women's soccer team moved up two spots in the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  ASC is now ranked #8 after debuting last week in the 10th spot.  Lady Pioneer goalie Mo Parks (Avoca) was named the NJCAA Division III goalie of the week as well.

Women's Soccer records 7th shutout

The Alfred State College women's soccer team recorded its seventh shutout of the season, 2-0 over JCC-Olean on Tuesday evening.  The win for the 10th ranked NJCAA Division III squad improves their record to 7-1-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Region III Division III play.

Jessie Smith (Fredonia) netted a penalty kick with 6:30 remaining in the first half.  She found the back of the again three and half minutes into the second half after getting a pass from Hailey Post (Jasper Troupsburg).  Smith becomes the first Lady Pioneer to score multiple goals on the season.

Lady Pioneers Blank Niagara

The Alfred State College women's soccer team recorded its sixth shutout, 2-0 over Niagara CCC, on Saturday afternoon.  ASC, ranked #10 in Division III of the NJCAA, improve to 6-1-2 on the season.

Shawna McNeil (Hornell) got the Lady Pioneers on the board when she found the top of the net with her first career goal just 12 minutes into the game.  Eight minutes later, Therese Hubbell (Bishop Kearney) added an insurance goal after getting a pretty pass from Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove).

In a battle of two NJCAA Division III top ten teams, Broome CC scored the lone goal of the game with 1:28 remaining in the first overtime to earn the victory over Alfred State.  The Lady Pioneers, ranked #10, fall to 5-1-2 on the season while the Lady Hornets, the two-time defending NJCAA Division III champion and currently ranked #4, improve to 8-2 on the season.

Brenna Campbell scored the game winner for the Hornets who out shot ASC 17 to 12 in the game.  Mo Parks (Avoca) made 16 saves for the Lady Pioneers.

Lady Pioneers Down Genesee

The Alfred State College women's soccer team scored three goals in the final 16 minutes to run their unbeaten streak to seven games.  With the 3-0 win over Genesee CC the Lady Pioneers are now 5-0-2 (4-0-1 Region III Division III) on the season.

Jessie Smith (Fredonia) opened the scoring after getting a pass from Jackie Matteson (Greece Arcadia).  Mckenzie Finnemore (Genesee Valley) scored the Lady Pioneers second goal and assisted on an insurance goal by Hailey Post (Jasper Troupsburg).

The Alfred State College women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to six games to start the 2009 season with a 2-1 victory over Mercyhurst North East.  The Lady Pioneers are now 4-0-2 on the season.

Jessie Smith (Fredonia) scored a goal and passed out an assist to pace the offense while Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove) added her second goal of the season.  Ginette Cornett (Potsdam) was credited with the assist on Smith's goal.

Mo Parks (Avoca) made five saves in net for ASC to record the victory.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team downed Jamestown CC 1-0 to run their season opening unbeaten streak to five games.  The Lady Pioneers are now 3-0-2 on the season.

Kassandra Durant (Ilion) found the back of the net in the second half after getting a pass from Ginette Cornett (Potsdam).  Mo Parks (Avoca) made 10 saves in net to record her fourth shut out of the season.

Alfred State would look to extend their unbeaten streak on Saturday when they travel to Mercyhurst North East for a 1 p.m. start.

For the second straight contest, the Alfred State College women's soccer team battled to a tie.  Tuesday, ASC and Bryant & Stratton played to a 1-1 tie.

Bryant & Stratton's Shanelle Warrick got the Lady Bobcats on the board with 20:29 remaining in the first half when she drilled a long kick into the top of the net.

With 37:09 remaining in the second half, Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove) when her direct kick rattled off the goal post and into the back of the net.

Parks and Seitz Named ASC Athletes of the Week

The Alfred State College athletic department has chosen women's soccer goalie Mo Parks (Avoca) and men's cross country runner Joe Seitz (Williamsville) as the athletes of the week.

The Alfred State College athletic department has chosen women's soccer goalie Mo Parks (Avoca) and men's cross country runner Joe Seitz (Williamsville) as the athletes of the week.

Parks played 283.5 minutes in net this past week for the Lady Pioneers without allowing a goal.  She made 29 stops en route to ASC starting the year with a 2-0-1 record.  ASC defeated Tompkins Cortland CC 2-0, SUNY Delhi 1-0, and tied Jefferson CC 0-0.
