NCAA grants exploratory status to Alfred State

The NCAA Division III membership committee announced this week that it has granted exploratory status to the Alfred State athletic program. Alfred State submitted the NCAA application in January.

The NCAA Division III membership committee announced this week that it has granted exploratory status to the Alfred State athletic program.  Alfred State submitted the NCAA application in January.

 “Moving to NCAA is a natural evolution in creating a four-year college environment at Alfred State. We are excited about the prospects of having our athletes compete for four years wearing the blue & gold,”  said Alfred State President, John Anderson.

Six Lady Pioneers Named All-WNYAC

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have been honored by the WNYAC.  Holli Pierce (Livonia), Jenna Lynn (York), Maura Tuffey (Albany/The Academy of the Holy Names), and Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) were 1st team selections while Lacee Pearl (Olean) and Danielle Henry (Arkport) were 2nd team.

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have been honored by the WNYAC.  Holli Pierce (Livonia), Jenna Lynn (York), Maura Tuffey (Albany/The Academy of the Holy Names), and Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) were 1st team selections while Lacee Pearl (Olean) and Danielle Henry (Arkport) were 2nd team.

Pierce was second on the Lady Pioneers with 23 points on the season.  She netted 11 goals (5 game winners) and one assists in 14 games.  Earlier in the season she was named 2nd team All-Region.

Four Lady Pioneers Named All-Region

The Alfred State College women's soccer team has landed four players on the 2011 All-Region team.  Jenna Lynn (York) was named 1st team while Holli Pierce (Livonia), Maura Tuffey (Albany/The Academy of the Holy Names), and Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) were named 2nd team.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team has landed four players on the 2011 All-Region team.  Jenna Lynn (York) was named 1st team while Holli Pierce (Livonia), Maura Tuffey (Albany/The Academy of the Holy Names), and Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) were named 2nd team.

Lynn led the Lady Pioneers offense in scoring.  She finished the campaign with a 12 goals and three assists for a team high 27 points.  For her two-year career she netted 19 goals and passed out seven assists.

Lynn and Joyner Named Athletes of the Week

Jenna Lynn (York) and Alonzo Joyner (Queens/Information Technology) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the SID office.

Jenna Lynn (York) and Alonzo Joyner (Queens/Information Technology) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the SID office.

Lynn netted two goals in the Lady Pioneers soccer team's 7-0 victory over Erie CC.  The win propelled the blue & gold to the Region III Division III semfinals for the third straight year.  Lynn leads ASC with 12 goals on the season.

Lady Pioneers Stumble in Semis

Herkimer CCC scored two goals eight minutes apart midway through the 1st half as they defeated Alfred State 2-1 in the Region III Division III B semifinals.  The Lady Pioneers finish the season with a 12-5 overall record.

The Generals scored two goals on four shots on the day.  They held off all Pioneer scoring chances until 1:29 remaining in the game when Kathryn Noyes (Elmira Southside) scored her first goal of the season.  Maura Tuffey (Albany/The Academy of the Holy Names) picked up the assist.

Lady Pioneers Advance with 7-0 Victory

The Alfred State College women's soccer team got the offense going as they defeated Erie CC 7-0 to advance in the Region III Division III Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers, the #6 seed, will travel to #3 Herkimer CCC on Tuesday for a 2nd round contest.

Lady Pioneers Earn 6th Seed

The Alfred State College women's soccer team has earned the #6 ranking in the Region III Division III Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers will host #11 Erie CC in a 1st Round match-up on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

ASC, ranked #7 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, are 11-4 overall and 10-3 in Region III Division III play.  The Lady Pioneers are making their seventh straight trip to the Regional Tournament.

Finger Lakes CC earned the #1 seed followed by Jamestown-Olean, Herkimer CCC, and Mohawk Valley CC.

Women's Soccer Team Ranked #7 Heading Into Postseason

The Alfred State College women's soccer team moved up one spot in the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  After three weeks in the #8 spot, the Lady Pioneers are now #7 as they head into the postseason.

The Lady Pioneers wrapped up their regular season last week with two tough contests.  They fell 1-0 to #2 ranked Finger Lakes CC and 1-0 in overtime to Region III Division I power Monroe CC.

Women's Soccer Suffers OT Setback

The Alfred State College women's soccer team gave Division I Monroe CC all they could handle in a back and forth WNYAC contest on Thursday.  The Tribunes scored the lone goal of the contest with one minute remaining in the first overtime to escape with a 1-0 lead to improve to 11-4-1 on the season.

MCC held a 25 to 12 shot advantage in the contest including a 14-6 shot on goal difference.  Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) was credited with 13 saves in net for the Lady Pioneers.

Women's Soccer Drops a Tight One

Finger Lakes CC scored a 2nd half goal as they defeated Alfred State 1-0 in a showdown of NJCAA Division III top ten teams.  The #2 ranked Lady Lakers are now 15-0-1 while the #8 Lady Pioneers are now 11-3 on the year.

Alfred had a goal disallowed in the 1st half and controlled play in the beginning of the contest.  FLCC scored the lone goal with 32 minutes remaining in the contest.

FLCC had a 18 to 11 shot advantage.  Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) made seven saves in net for ASC.
