Lady Pioneers Win Delhi Tournament

The Alfred State College women's basketball team won a hard fought battle 74-71 over SUNY Delhi in the finals of the Delhi Tournament.  The win improves the Lady Pioneers to 3-0 on the young season.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) scored 21 points to lead ASC en route to being named the MVP of the Tournament.  Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) added 20 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.  Amie Brooks (Pavilion) chipped in 14 points and Nuri Bey (Bronx/HS of Computers & Technology) finished with 10.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) and Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) each scored 17 points to pace the Lady Pioneers.  Amie Brooks (Pavilion) chipped in 12 and Carriola Chambers (Manhattan/Facing History) added seven.

Alfred State, 2-0 on the young season, built a 39-25 halftime lead.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team opened up their 2011-12 campaign with a hard fought 66-59 road victory at Broome CC.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) led the blue & gold with 22 points while Nuri Bey (Bronx/HS of Computers & Technology) chipped in 14.  Freshman Hailey Witchella added 12 and Amie Brooks (Pavilion) had eight points on the day.

Alfred State held a 37-31 lead at halftime.  The win was ASC's first season opening win since 2006 and the first win over BCC since 2006.

Arroyo Named New Alfred State Athletic Director

Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals.  Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.

Romero Selected to Play in NJCAA All-Star Event

Alfred State College women's basketball player Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) has been selected to play in the 2011 NJCAA women's basketball coaches' assocation All-Star event at Pensacola State College.

Romero will spend a day practicing with her team (July 8th) and will play the following two days (July 9th & 10th) versus some of the top talent in the NJCAA.

Romero, Brooks, and Campbell Earn Honors

A trio of Alfred State College women's basketball players have earned postseason honors.  Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) was named 1st team All-Region & All-WNYAC, Amie Brooks (Pavilion) was named 3rd team All-Region & All-WNYAC, and Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) was named honorable mention All-WNYAC.

The Alfred State College women's basketball teams 2010-11 season came to an end following a 78-65 loss to #1 seed Genesee CC in the semifinals of the Region III Division II Tournament.  The Pioneers, the #4 seed, conclude the season with a 14-14 mark while the Cougars will take on #3 Mercyhurst North East in the tournament finals on Sunday.

After a slow start, the Alfred State College women’s basketball team got it going and was able to defeat Niagara CCC 67-59 in a Region III Division II Tournament 1st Round contest.  The Pioneerswill take on the #1 seed Genesee CC on Saturday in the regional final four.

The Thunder Wolves jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first seven minutes but the Lady Pioneers responded and took a one-point lead 33-32 at half.  Alfred State held the lead most of the second half and was able to stretch it out to as many as 12.

ASC Earns #4 Seed

The Alfred State College women's basketball team has earned the #4 seed in the Region III Division II Tournament and will host #5 Niagara CCC in a first round contest on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  The Lady Pioneers are 3-7 in region play while the Thunder Wolves are 2-8.

This will be the third meeting between the two schools.  ASC down NCCC 71-66 at the Orvis Activities Center on 1/29 and then earned a 66-59 victory last week in Sanborn.

Lady Cougars Rally for Victory

Genesee CC used a 18-8 run late in the second half en route to a 70-62 victory over Alfred State in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Lady Pioneers led 38-31 with 12:28 remaining but GCC rallied and tied the game at 48-48 with 6:29 remaining.  The Cougars went on the deciding run and never looked back.
