Witchella Named Region Athlete of the Week

Alfred State freshman basketball player Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week. Witchella had a big week as the Lady Pioneers increased there winning streak to eight games.

Witchella recorded two double-doubles in the Lady Pioneers victories this week.  She scored 34 points, grabbed 26 rebounds, and blocked six shots in a win at Genesee CC and recorded 12 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks in a win vs. Jamestown CC. 

Witchella is averaging 16.8 ppg this season and 11.1 rpg in 19 games played this year.

Lady Pioneers are #2 Seed in Regionals

As expected, the Alfred State women's basketball team will be the #2 seed in the Region III Division II in this week's tournament. The Lady Pioneers ended the regular season with a 18-8 overall mark and a 7-3 record in RIII DII.

Team Effort Lifts Lady Pioneers over JCC

The Alfred State women's basketball team clinched the #2 seed in the Region III Division II Tournament with a total team victory, 62-56 over Jamestown CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now winners of eight straight and are 18-8 overall (7-3 RIII DII).

The Lady Pioneers led 29-19 at half and led by as many as 14 in the 2nd half but the Jayhawks rallied and cut the lead to three numerous times but could never get any closer.  Alfred's poor shooting from the foul line (15 for 28) kept JCC in the contest.

NCAA grants exploratory status to Alfred State

The NCAA Division III membership committee announced this week that it has granted exploratory status to the Alfred State athletic program. Alfred State submitted the NCAA application in January.

The Alfred State women's basketball team earned their seventh straight victory on Tuesday with a 86-74 victory over Genesee CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 17-8 overall and 6-3 in Region III Division II play.

Lady Pioneers Keep Rolling

The Alfred State women's basketball team used a 27-0 run to run past Lakeland (OH) CC in their final non-conference contest of the season.  The Lady Pioneers have now won six straight games and are 16-8 on the year.

Alfred led 32-26 at half but the Lady Lakers came out of half and scored the first seven points to grab a 33-32 lead.  The Lady Pioneers responded with a 27 run to take full control of the game.

After a slow start, the Alfred State women's basketball team raced past Roberts Wesleyan JV 70-45 in a non-conference tilt.  The Raiders jumped out to a 12-7 lead but the Pioneers answered with a 32 to 8 run to close out the half.

The Alfred State women's basketball team saw a double-digit 2nd half lead disappear but was able to score the games final five points to earn a 73-69 victory over Mercyhurst North East in a key Region III Division II contest.  The sweet Valentine's Day victory improves the Lady Pioneers to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in RIII DII while MNE is 13-5 overall and 6-1 in RIII DII play.

Brooks Leads Lady Pioneers Past NCCC

Amie Brooks (Pavilion) had a career high 29 points as the Alfred State women's basketball team downed Niagara CCC to earn their 3rd straight victory and improve to 13-8 overall on the season (4-3 Region III Division II).

Brooks was 11 for 20 from the field and connected on five 3-pointers to lead the Lady Pioneers.  Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) finished with 17 points while Nuri Bey (Bronx/HS of Computers & Technology) chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.

Alfred State held a 28-25 halftime led by as many as 15 in the 2nd half.  The Pioneers forced the Kats into 26 turnovers as they avenged a 68-66 overtime loss to the Kats on January 21st.
