Lady Pioneers win ASC Tournament

The Alfred State College women's basketball team repeated as the champion of the Alfred State Tournament with a hard fought 63-53 victory over Dean (MA) College.  With the win the Lady Pioneers have won five straight and improve to 6-2 on the season.

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in the first half on her way to being named MVP of the tournament.  McLaughlin was 8 for 24 from the field, 2 for 5 from three, and 5 for 5 from the line.  She added six rebounds, five assists, and a steal.

A-State advances to Tournament Finals

The Alfred State College women's basketball team started the contest on a 23-0 and eased to a 89-40 victory over Jefferson CC in their opening round contest of the 4th annual Alfred State Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers advance to the finals on Saturday and will take on Dean College at 2 p.m.

Annual Alfred State College Tournament Set for this Weekend

Lady Pioneers down Elmira JV

The Alfred State College women's basketball team held Elmira JV to just nine points in the 1st half en route to a 68-40 victory on Monday evening.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 4-2 on the year while the Soaring Eagles drop to 0-1.

Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) led the way with 25 points and 10 boards.  She was 7 for 13 from the line and 11 for 12 from the foul line.  Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) finished with 12 points while Kaila Smith (Alfred Almond) finished with seven points off the bench.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team outscored U of Rochester JV 39 to 22 in the 2nd half en route to a 72-54 victory on Monday evening.  With the win the Lady Pioneers improve to 3-2 heading into the Thanksgiving break.

Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) led all scorers with 28 points and 14 rebounds.  Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) finished with 18 points (16 in the 2nd half) and six boards.  Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) finished with eight points and Desaundra Carr (Boys & Girls) chipped in six points.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team evened up their record with a 67-43 victory over Cayuga CC on Tuesday evening.  The Lady Pioneers are improve to 2-2 on the year while the Lady Spartans fall to 2-2.

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) recorded her fourth straight double-digit scoring game to start the season with a game-high 27 points.  She has now scored 93 points in the Lady Pioneers four games.

Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) added 10 points and Desaundra Carr (Brooklyn/Boys & Girls) finished with eight points.

McLaughlin & Williamson Named Athletes of the Week

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) and Zak Williamson (Rocky Point) have been named the Alfred State College athletes of the week.

Alfred State's 13 to 2 run in the final four minutes fell just short as the Lady Pioneers fell 55-54 to Lakeland (OH) CC on Sunday afternoon.  A-State trailed 53-41 with 3:55 remaining before going on their run to close within one.  ASC falls to 1-2 on the year while Lakeland improves to 4-0 (all wins versus WNYAC competition).

The Lady Pioneers got the ball back with five seconds remaining after a Lakeland shot clock violation but couldn't get a shot off before the buzzer.

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) and Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) led the Alfred State College women's basketball team to a 70-57 victory over Corning CC on Thursday night in the Lady Pioneers home opener.  A-State evens up their record at 1-1 on the young season while Corning is now 2-2.

Lady Pioneers Fall in Opener

The Alfred State College women's basketball team could not overcome 30 turnovers and saw Broome CC rally for a 63-57 victory in the Lady Pioneers season opener.  Broome improves to 3-0 on the young season with the victory.

With 2:38 remaining the game was knotted at 53-53.  The Lady Hornets went on a 10 to 4 run to close out the game to seal the victory.  In total the game featured six ties and 13 lead changes.
