Brooks Named Region Athlete of the Week

Alfred State College women's basketball player Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week.  Brooks led her team to the championship of the ASC Tournament with victories over Jefferson CC, 63-45, and Dean College, 76-69.

Versus Jefferson, Brooks was 9 for 17 from the field and 4 for 6 from the foul line to lead the team with 22 points.  She also grabbed 10 reboudns, passed out two assists, and was credited with two steals in 33 minutes of play.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 63-45 victory over Jefferson CC in the first round of the ASC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers are now 2-4 on the season and will take on Dean College in the championship game of the tournament at Noon on Sunday.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team dropped a tight battle at Orange CCC 68-62 on Saturday.  The Lady Pioneers are now 1-4 on the season.

Ayanna Rhodes (Buffalo/East Ridge) and Brittany Brooks (Elmira Free) each scored 14 points to lead the way for ASC.  Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) and Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) each chipped in 11 points.

The Lady Pioneers were slowed down by 13 for 27 shooting from the foul line.

With the game tied at 6-6 early in the first half, Cayuga CC went on a 16-0 run and never let Alfred State fight all the way back en route to a 86-68 victory.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 1-3 on the season.

Caitlyn Dillard led the Lady Spartans with 26 points while Corrissa Quattrini recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.  Ryan Iannello finished with 16 and Shakeema Green chipped in 12 points.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team couldn't get the offense going and fell 96-48 at Lakeland (Kirtland, OH) on Sunday afternoon.  The Lady Pioneers are now 1-2 in the early going of their 2008-09 campaign.

Britney Brooks (Elmira Free) led the Blue & Gold with 14 points and six rebounds while Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) added 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Pioneers will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Cayuga CC at 5:30 p.m.

Both the Alfred State College men's and women's basketball teams earned victories at Corning CC on Thursday.  The women evened their record at 1-1 with a 69-47 victory while the men are now 2-2 following a 77-56 win.

Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) connected on 6 three-pointers and led the Lady Pioneers with 27 points.  Ayana Rhodes (Buffalo/East Ridge) finished with 10 points while Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) chipped in six points.

Ayssa Polosky recorded a double-double, 15 points and 13 rebounds, to lead the Lady Hornets.  Aimee Kellicutt added 13 points and seven boards while Brittany Finkle chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

Broome led 28-20 at half and shot 36.7% (18 for 49) from the field.  The Lady Hornets were slowed down by 29 turnovers.
