Brooks Named Region Athlete of the Week

For the second time this season, Alfred State College sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week.  Brooks recorded double-doubles in all three games this past week as the Lady Pioneers were 2-1 to improve to 7-8 on the season.

Brooks leads Lady Pioneers past Erie

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) scored a career high 33 points as the Alfred State College women's basketball team outscored Erie CC 50-30 in the second half en route to a 89-75 victory.  The Lady Pioneers are now 7-8 on the season and 2-2 in WNYAC play.

Brooks was 11 for 20 from the field, 2 for 3 from three, and 9 for 14 from the foul line as she scored over 30 for the second straight game.  She also grabbed 13 rebounds, passed out four assists, and was credited with four steals.  Brooks scored 80 points during the Lady Pioneers three games this week.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team couldn't hold on to a halftime lead and fell 77-62 to Jamestown CC in a WNYAC match-up on Thursday evening.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in WNYAC play.

Alfred State jumped out to a 30-27 lead at half.  In the second half the teams traded baskets but the Lady Jayhawks pulled away with key shots from outside.

Lady Pioneers win '09 opener

The Alfred State College women's basketball team opened up the 2009 portion of their season with a 64-42 victory over Elmira JV on Wednesday evening.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 5-7 on the year.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led ASC with 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.  Shawna McNeil (Hornell) added a career high 14 poitns and nine boards while Megan Coates (Nazareth) chipped in 10 points.  Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) finished with nine points.

Changes to 2009 Basketball Schedule

The Alfred State College athletic department has announced a few changes to the 2009 portion of the basketball schedules.

Men's Basketball:

1/17 vs. JCC-Olean has been moved to a 1 p.m. start

2/1 vs. Medaille College JV will be played at 12:30 p.m.

2/2 vs. Ithaca College JV will be played at 7 p.m.

Lady Pioneers Fall in '08 Finale

Genesee CC jumped out to a 15-2 lead and never looked back en route to a 70-45 victory over Alfred State in the WNYAC opener for both teams.  ASC ends the 2008 portion of the season with a 4-7 mark while GCC evens up their record at 3-3.

Lady Pioneers Down Elmira JV

The Alfred State College women's basketball team raced out to a 37-16 lead at halftime en route to a 57-47 victory over Elmira JV on Sunday afternoon.  The win snaps a two game slide and improves the Lady Pioneers to 4-6 on the season.

Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) led the way with 11 points while Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) added 10 point.s.  Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) chipped in 9 points and Ayana Rhodes (Buffalo/East Ridge) finished with 8.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team fell 72-65 to the JV squad from the University of Rochester on Thursday evening.  U of R was 12 for 13 from the foul line to seal the victory.

Sarah Glacken led the Yellowjackets (3-0) with 28 points while Michelle Ketchem chipped in 15 points and nine boards.

Lady Pioneer Comeback Falls Short

The Alfred State College women's basketball team couldn't come back from a first half deficit and fell 64-50 to Finger Lakes CC on Tuesday.  FLCC used a 17-0 run in the last seven minutes of the half to lead 31-17 and held off a Lady Pioneer second half rally that closed the gap to four points.

Brittney Williams had a big night to lead the Lady Lakers.  She finished with 22 points, 21 rebounds, and seven assists.  Jordyn Eckman finished with 12 points and Bobbi Dixon came off the bench and chipped in 11.
