Brooks leads ASC past Houghton JV

Brittney Brook (Elmira Free) scored 28 points as the Alfred State College women's basketball team downed Houghton JV 66-37 to improve to 7-4 on the year.

Shawna McNeil (Hornell) added eight points while Megan Coates (Rochester/Nazareth) finished with six.

The blue & gold travel to Kirtland, OH to play in the Lakeland CC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers take on Glen Oaks (MI) CC in a first round game on Saturday at Noon.  The host school takes on Notre Dame (OH) JV at 4 p.m. in the other opening day contest.

Lady Pioneers Rally Falls Short

Finger Lakes CC built a 10-point halftime lead, 41-31, and withstood an Alfred State College rally in a 77-71 victory.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 6-4 on the season.

Genesee Claims ASC Tournament Crown

Genesee CC's led 40-35 at half and was able to use a press to increase their lead en route to a 83-71 victory over Alfred State in the championship game of the 2009 ASC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 6-3 on the year.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led the Lady Pioneers with 31 points (5 for 6 from three-point land).  Megan Coates (Rochester/Nazareth) added 12 points, Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) chipped in 10, and Ayana Rhodes (Clermont, FL) grabbed 11 rebounds and passed out eight assists.

Lady Pioneers Advance to Finals

The Alfred State College women's basketball team trailed 18-17 but went on a 23-7 run to gain the lead and never looked back.  The Lady Pioneers moved to the the championship game of the ASC Tournament with a 85-52 victory over Jefferson CC.

The blue & gold used the 23-7 run to lead 40-25 but then put the game out of reach with a 21-0 run to start the second half.

Lady Pioneers Rally Falls Short

Trailing 38-26 at half, the Alfred State College women's basketball team rallied and had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds but fell 73-71 to Cuyahoga (OH) CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 5-2 on the season.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) took the Lady Pioneers on her shoulders in the second half. She netted 26 of her career high 38 points in the second half to get the blue & gold back in the game.  Shawna McNeil (Hornell) and Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) each finished with nine points while Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) had seven.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team raced to a 93-40 victory over Houghton College JV to win their fifth straight.  The Lady Pioneers are now 5-1 on the season while the Highlanders fall to 1-4.

Brooks Named Player of the Week

Alfred State College sophomore women's basketball player Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week.  Brooks helped the Lady Pioneers to a 3-0 week and a 4-1 start.

Alfred State College sophomore women's basketball player Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week.  Brooks helped the Lady Pioneers to a 3-0 week and a 4-1 start.

Brooks scored 82 points in the three victories for a 27.3 average.  She also grabbed 23 rebounds, had 12 steals, and passed out eight assists.  She had 30 points versus Cayuga, 23 versus Roberts Wesleyan JV, and 29 points versus SUNY Orange.

Brooks is a returning NJCAA Division II 3rd team All-American and was a 1st team pre-season All-American.

Brooks and Conway Lead ASC past Orange

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) and Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) led the Alfred State College women's basketball team to a 82-72 victory SUNY Orange.  The Lady Pioneers are now 4-1 on the year while the Lady Colts fall to 1-2.

Brooks led all scorers with 29 points and six rebounds while Conway finished with 22 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Megan Coates (Nazareth) added 12 points and Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) finished with 10 points and eight boards.

Lady Pioneers Win Third Straight

The Alfred State College women's basketball team raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 85-39 victory over Roberts Wesleyan JV on Thursday evening.  The Lady Pioneers have now won three in a row and are 3-1 on the year.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led the way for ASC with 23 points while Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) finished with 16.  Ayana Rhodes (Cleremont, FL) added a season high 15 points, five assists, and four steals.  Kim Winquist (Wilson) came off the bench and chipped in four points, eight rebounds, and four blocks.

Coates' Late Jumper Leads Lady Pioneers to Victory

Megan Coates (Nazareth) hit a 10 foot jumper with four seconds left to lift the Alfred State College women's basketball team to a 72-71 victory over Cayuga CC on Tuesday evening.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 2-1 on the year.

The blue & gold led 39-28 at half and led by as many as 19 before the Lady Spartans made a furious comeback and took the lead in the final minute before Coates hit the game-winner.
