Lady Pioneers fall at Jamestown

The Alfred State College women's basketball team never could get any offense going and fell 72-50 to Jamestown CC in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team never could get any offense going and fell 72-50 to Jamestown CC in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Shawna McNeil (Hornell) led the blue & gold with 14 points while Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) chipped in 10.

The Jayhawks led the whole game and held a 12-point halftime lead.

The Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they travel to Genesee CC for a 6 p.m. tip-off with the Cougars.

Poor Shooting Dooms Lady Pioneers

The Alfred State College women's basketball team shot just 28.8% from the field and fell 70-62 to Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-7 (1-1 WNYAC) on the season while the Lady Saints improve to 10-2 (1-2 WNYAC).

The Alfred State College women's basketball team shot just 28.8% from the field and fell 70-62 to Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-7 (1-1 WNYAC) on the season while the Lady Saints improve to 10-2 (1-2 WNYAC).

ASC was just 23 for 80 from the field and 2 for 17 from beyond the three-point arc while MNE was 22 for 64 and 8 for 18 from three.  The Saints led 34-26 at half and led by as many as 20 points in the second half before ASC rallied and cut the lead to six in the final minute.

Brooks Named Region III Athlete of the Week

Alfred State College sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week for the third time during the 2009-10 season.  Brooks led the Lady Pioneers to two convincing victories last week.

Turnovers Prove Costly to Lady Pioneers

The Alfred State College women's basketball team couldn't overcome 31 turnovers in a 95-69 loss to Lakeland (OH) CC.  The Lady Pioneers finish the 2009 portion of their season with a 8-6 mark.

Zipporah Tidwell led four Lady Lakers in double figures with 27 points and nine rebounds.  SirShawna Dowdy finished with 22 points and seven assists, Tiara Roberts had a double double with 21 points and 10 boards, and Sierra Morris chipped in 18.

Four Lady Pioneers finished in double figures as the Alfred State College women's basketball team advanced to the Lakeland (OH) CC Tournament final with a 74-42 victory over Glen Oaks (MI) CC.  The victory improves ASC to 8-4 on the year.

Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) recorded a double-double with 14 poins and 15 rebounds to lead the blue & gold.  Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, Ayanna Rhodes (Clermont, FL) finished with 11 points, and Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) added 10 points.
