Lady Pioneers Season Comes to an End

Erie CC used a strong second half to advance to the Region III Division II Tournament semfinals with a 76-61 victory over Alfred State.  The Kats will take on Jamestown CC on Saturday while the Lady Pioneers finish the campaign with a 11-16 record.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) finished her record breaking two-year career at Alfred with a game-high 29 points on 11 for 27 shooting.  She also grabbed 18 rebounds and passed out five assists.  She finishes her career with 1,048 points.

Lady Pioneers Enter Postseason with #5 Seed

Coach Gina Boyd and the Alfred State College women's basketball team will enter the Region III Division II Tournament this week as the #5 seed and will travel to #4 Erie CC for a first round match-up on Wednesday.

ASC (11-15, 2-8 Region III Division II) and ECC (11-16, 5-5 RIII DII) split their two regular season contest with both teams winning on their home court.  Erie earned a 60-52 victory on January 30th at the Flickenger Center while Alfred earned a 73-68 win last Tuesday.

Lady Pioneers Lose Close One, Brooks Eclipses 1,000 points

The Alfred State College women's basketball team fell 61-59 to Niagara CCC in their regular season finale.  In the contest sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) eclipsed scored her 1,000 career point to become the first Lady Pioneer to reach the milestone.

ASC led 36-29 at half but the Trailblazers were able to outscore the Pioneers 32-23 in the second half to pick up their first conference victory of the season.

The Alfred State College sophomore class was key as the Lady Pioneers snapped a eight game losing streak and won their home season finale, 73-68 over Erie CC.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 11-14 overall and 2-7 in WNYAC action.

ASC Falls to Genesee

Genesee CC used a balance scoring attack and a strong second half to down the Alfred State College women's basketball team 79-57 in WNYAC action.  ASC falls to 10-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Marcedes Caver led the Cougars with 27 points, seven boards, five assists, and five steals.  Krystie Laurey finished with 21 points while Jamia Martin added 13.  GCC forced the Pioneers into 33 turnovers.

Tribunes Top Pioneers

The Alfred State College basketball teams struggled in road contests at Monroe CC.  The men fell 75-54 to the #3 ranked Tribunes while the women were defeated 114-49 by the #13 ranked Lady Tribunes.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) was the only Pioneer in double figures for the men.  He finished with 20 poitns while Rasean Parris (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) added seven points. 

Four different Tribunes finished in double figures with Antonio Williams and Bobby Bell each finishing with 14.  MCC held a 46 to 38 advantage on the boards and forced 23 turnovers.

Poor Shooting In Second Half Hurts Lady Pioneers

Alfred State and Jamestown CC were tied 39-39 at half but the Lady Pioneers shot just 15.2% in the second half and fell 76-58.  JCC improves to 20-6 while ASC falls to 10-12 (1-6 WNYAC).

ASC's Shawna McNeil (Hornell) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) added 11 points.  Brittany Brooks (Elmira Free) finished with eight points, eight reobunds, and six blocks, Kim Winquist (Wilson) chipped in six points and 12 rebounds, and Megan Coates (Nazareth) added six early in the contest.

The Mercyhurst North East women's basketball team built a 23-point halftime lead en route to a 77-63 victory over Alfred State.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-11 overall and 1-5 in WNYAC play.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led the blue & gold with 16 points while Kim Winquist (Wilson) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.  Shawna McNeil (Hornell) chipped in 11 while Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) added 8.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team dropped a back and forth contest 60-52 to Erie CC on Saturday.  During the contest sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) established a new ASC career scoring record of 920 points.

Brooks had a season low eight points on the day but surpassed Nichole Tyler's previous school record of 916 points (2005-2007).  Brooks now has scored 920 points in her two year playing career in 44 games (20.9 points per game).

Genesee CC broke a 24-24 tie with a 17-5 run to close out the first half en route to a 88-67 victory over Alfred State on Thursday evening.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-9 overall and 1-3 in WNYAC play.

Alfred State returns to the road on Saturday when they visit the Flickenger Center to take on Erie CC at 1 p.m.
