Lady Pioneers Ease Past FLCC

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) had a monster game as she recorded her sixth straight double-double as Alfred State defeated Finger Lakes CC 65-50.  With the win the Lady Pioneers are 7-2 on the season.

Lady Pioneers Rally for Victory

The Alfred State women's basketball team held Penn College to just 22 points in the 2nd half and rallied for a 66-62 victory.  The Lady Pioneers are now 6-2 on the year while the Lady Wildcats fall to 2-3.

Witchella and Thone Named Athletes of the Week

Basketball player Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) and swimmer Danielle Thone (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Witchella had a big week for the blue & gold averaging 22.7 points and 16 rebounds per game. She also added 17 blocks and 11 steals. She had a triple-double vs. Corning with 26 points, 17 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Lady Pioneers Run out of Gas

Playing for the second time in less than eight hours, the Alfred State women's basketball team ran out of gas in the 2nd half and fell 73-66 to Fulton Montgomery CC.  The Pioneers fall to 5-2 on the year while FMCC improves to 7-0.

With the game tied at 50-50, Fulton Montgomery went on a 15 to 2 run to put the game out of reach to open up a 13-point lead.  The Pioneers could not muster the offense to fully get back in the game.

Lady Pioneers Suffer First Loss

The Alfred State women's basketball team lost a back and forth contest 75-71 to Westchester CC in the Alfred State Tournament.  The game featured seven ties and ten lead changes.

Alfred led 68-66 with just under a minute left in the contest.  Westchester's Hayley Awerdick drew a foul and hit the first foul shot.  Her second shot rattled out and Neilia McKenzie grabbed the rebound and scored her lone basket of the game to give WCC the lead for good.

Witchella finished the day with 26 points, 17 rebounds, ten blocks, and seven steals.  Briana Meehan (Whitesville) added 18 points, Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) chipped in eight, and Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Alfred led by just one, 36-35, at halftime.

Alfred State Basketball Tournament Set for this Weekend

Alfred State will host the annual Alfred State Tournament this weekend. The Pioneer men will welcome Fulton Montgomery, Monroe College JV, and Rockland CC to the Orvis Activities Center while FMCC and Westchester CC will compete on the women's side.

Alfred State will host the annual Alfred State Tournament this weekend.  The Pioneer men will welcome Fulton Montgomery, Monroe College JV, and Rockland CC to the Orvis Activities Center while FMCC and Westchester CC will compete on the women's side.

The two-day tournament kicks off on Saturday at Noon with four games scheduled and concludes on Sunday with three games.  Due to only having three teams in the tournament, the Lady Pioneers will play twice on Saturday.

The Alfred State women's basketball team made it four straight with a 69-58 victory over SUNY Orange on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers are now 4-0 on the year.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led the Pioneers with 21 points and 15 rebounds.  Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) had 17 and Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) chipped in 11.  Briana Meehan added nine points and Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) netted five.

The blue & gold return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Corning for a 5 p.m. tip-off with Corning CC.

Basketball Doubleheader at Orange Games Flipped

The schedule for Saturday's (11/10) Alfred State basketball doubleheader at SUNY Orange has been flipped. The men's game will now tip off a 1 p.m. while the women will play at 3 p.m.

Fanning and Frazier Honored by Region and Alfred State

Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) and Collin Frazier (Woodbridge, VA) have been named the Region III athletes of the week and the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Fanning led the Lady Pioneers to a 3-0 record and the title at the SUNY Delhi Tournament.  She averaged 17.7 points per game and 6.3 rebounds.  She had 10 points and 13 rebounds vs. Broome CC, 17 points and seven rebounds vs. Sullivan County, and 23 points and seven rebounds vs.
