Toyodome Named AVCA All-American

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced its Two-Year Colleges Women's Volleyball All-American Team, and Alfred State's Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) was named to the First Team.  This is the first time ever an Alfred State athlete has received this honor.  Toyodome is the only NJCAA Division III player named to the First Team.

Doorley Named Coach of the Year

Coach Doorley is Coach of the YearAlfred State College volleyball coach Gene Doorley has earned two national Coach of the Year awards.  For the third straight season Doorley has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Northeast Coach of the Year and for the second straight season he has been named the NJCAA Division III District A Coach of the Year.

Toyodome and Jerome Named All-American

Toyodome spikes over two defendersAlfred State College sophomores Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) and Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) have been named All-Americans by the Division III of the NJCAA.  Toyodome was a first team selection while Jerome was named honorable mention.

Alfred State College sophomores Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) and Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) have been named All-Americans by the Division III of the NJCAA.  Toyodome was a first team selection while Jerome was named honorable mention.

Toyodome and Jerome helped lead the Lady Pioneers to the best volleyball season in school history.  The team finished the campaign with a new school record 38 victories (38-4) and a 4th place finish at the NJCAA Division III National Championships.

Describe your experience at the National Championship Tournament.  The tournament was really fun. Being around all the teams and seeing how other teams from around the country play was really exciting.

Two Lady Pioneers All-Tournament at Nationals

Two Lady Pioneer volleyball players earned All-Tournament honors at the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament this weekend in Rochester, MN.  Sophomore Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) and freshman Miki Inoue (Kumamoto, Japan) were each selected All-Tournament team members.

Volleyball Wins 4th place Match

The Alfred State College volleyball team wrapped up their 2008 season with their 38th victory of the season in the 4th/6th place match of the NJCAA Division III National Championships.  The Lady Pioneers earned a straight set 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 over Nassau CC.

Alfred State will battle the #6 seed Nassau CC this morning in the 4th/6th place match at the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Rochester, MN.  Match up-dates will be available at least every 10 minutes during the contest.

11:50 a.m. EST (10:50 CST): Nassau timeout, Alfred has rallied and leads 19-17 in game three.

11:43 a.m. EST (10:43 CST): ASC timeout, NCC leasds 13-9.

Lady Pioneers Rebound, Advance to Consolation Finals

The Alfred State College volleyball team struggled in their NJCAA Division III quarterfinal match-up and fell 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, and 9-25 to #5 seed Hibbing (MN) CC.  The Lady Pioneers were able to bounce right back in a consolation bracket contest, downing Anne Arundel (MD) CC 25-15, 25-16, and 25-9.
