Pioneer Men Win, Ladies Fall vs. Erie

The Alfred State College men's swimming team defeated Erie CC 89-79 in a WNYAC dual match on Wednesday night at the Orvis Activities Center pool. The Lady Kats pulled off a 90-52 victory.

Braden Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) was a two-event winner for the men.  He won the 200 free (1:56.90) and the 500 free (5:27.90).  Tim Guarino (Cornwall) won the 200 IM (2:32.55), Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah) won the 100 butterfly (59.59), and Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) won the 100 back (1:09.09).

Pioneers Win GCC Harvest Invte, Women 4th

The Alfred State College men's swimming team won the Genesee CC Harvest Invitational while the women's team finished 4th out of six teams.  The men scored 263 points on the day to defeat Herkimer CCC by 13 points.

Women Win Swim Opener, Men Fall in Close One

The Alfred State College swim team dove into the 2010-11 season with a strong showing vs. Genesee CC.  The women defeated GCC 87-60 while the GCC men won 100-92.

Ashley Andrus (Cuba Rushford), Sabrina Dunning (Cuba Rushford), and Cristina Corkey (Almond) were double individual event winners.  Andrus won the 200 IM (2:36.92) and the 100 back (1:11.95), Dunning won the 200 free (2:27.84) and the 500 free (6:42.48), and Corkey won the 100 free (1:04.30) and the 100 breast (1:26.18).  The three also paired with Erin Baum (Dryden) to win the 200 free relay (2:01.15).

Athletic Department Hands Out End of Year Awards

The Alfred State College athletic department presented their annual end-of-year athletic awards during a ceremony held at the Lake Lodge on May 3rd.  The athlete of the year, sportsmanship, leadership, academic, and William Havens awards were presented.

Pioneers Finish 14th at Swim Nationals

Both the men's and women's Alfred State College swim teams finished 14th at the NJCAA National Championships held at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, FL. The men scored 40 points in the four day competition while the women scored 7.

Ashley Andrus (Cuba Rushford) placed in her third event of the competition on Saturday.  She finished 13th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:32.36.

After day three of the NJCAA Swimming National Championships the Alfred State College men's swim team sits in 12th while the women are 15th.  The championships being held at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, FL conclude on Saturday.

The 200 medley relay team of Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah), Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point), Tim Guarino (Cornwall), and Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) finished in 14th in 1:56.16.

Ashley Andrus (Cuba Rushford) finished 16th in the 100 backstroke (1:10.82) on the women's side.

Pioneers Still in 11th, Lady Pioneers in 13th after Day Two of Nationals

The Alfred State College men's swim team remained in 11th place after day two of the NJCAA Naitonal Championships while the women are in 13th place.  The men now have 32 points while the women have 2 points.

On Wednesday, Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point), Tim Guarino (Cornwall), Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah), and Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) finished 11th in the 800 free relay in 8:28.31 and finished 13th in the 400 medley relay in 3:22.75.

On Thursday, the Pioneer relay finished 11th in the 200 free relay swimming a time of 1:41.43.

Andrus and Roberts Named All-Region

Sophomore swimmers Ashley Andrus (Cuba Rushford) and Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) have been named All-Region based on strong performances at the Northeast Districts.

Sophomore swimmers Ashley Andrus (Cuba Rushford) and Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) have been named All-Region based on strong performances at the Northeast Districts.

Andrus earned 2nd team All-Region honors in the 100 yard backstroke.  She finished 2nd at districts in the event with a swim of 1:10.69.  Andrus led the blue & gold to a 8th place team finish.

Roberts earned 2nd team All-Region honors in the 200 yard butterfly.  He swam a 2:21.56 to earn 2nd place at the Districts.  Roberts and his teammates earned a 6th place finish at Districts.

The Alfred State College men's swim team finished 6th overall and 4th in Region III at the Northeast Districts over the weekend while the women finished 8th overall and 5th in Region III.  The men scored 170.5 points while the women accumulated 73.5.

Pioneers Wrap up Regular Season at Genesee

The Alfred State College swimming team finished up their regular season on Saturday at the Genesee CC Winter Classic.  The unscored meet gave the team one last chance to improve on their times heading into the District Championship February 12-14.

Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) won the 200 butterfly (2:23.66) and was 2nd in the 100 butterfly (1:01.67), Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah) won the 50 free (23.88) and was 2nd in the 100 free (52.50), Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point) won the 200 back (2:30.76), and Wade Harrington (Campbell-Savona) was 2nd in the 500 free (6:16.16)
