Pioneers Swimmers Finish 3rd at MCC invite

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished 3rd at the three-day Monroe CC Invitational.  The Pioneers scored 346 points in the competition.

Braden Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) won the 200 back (2:14.57), was 2nd in the 200 free (1:56.44) and 5th in the 500 free (5:26.06).  Jake Giglio (Hornell) finished 2nd in the 50 free with a time of 23.27.  He was also was 3rd in the 100 fly (58.31) and 4th in the 100 free (53.75).

Pioneers Win HCCC Fall Invite

The Alfred State College men's swimming team won the Herkimer CCC Fall Invitational on Saturday while the women's team finished 5th.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team won the Herkimer CCC Fall Invitational on Saturday while the women's team finished 5th.

Braden Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) was a triple winner to lead the Pioneers.  He won the 200 free (1:56.95), the 200 back (2:20.65), and the 500 free (5:20.12).

Pioneer Swimmers win WNYAC Dual

The Alfred State College men's swimming team improved to 4-0 in WNYAC action with victories over Mercyhurst North East, 73-9, and Erie CC, 78-0, on Wednesday evening.  In women's action, ASC defeated MNE 26-15 but fell 25-24 to ECC.

Romero and Peet Named ASC Athletes of the Week

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) and Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) have been named the ASC winter athletes of the week by the SID office.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) and Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) have been named the ASC winter athletes of the week by the SID office.

Romero was named the MVP of the SUNY Delhi Tournament and helped  the Lady Pioneers to a 3-0 start to their 2011-12 campaign.  She finished the week scoring 60 points including 21 points in a three-point win over Delhi in the tourney finals.

Men 2nd, Women 5th at GCC Harvest Invite

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished 2nd at the Genesee CC Harvest Invitational while the women finished 5th.  The men scored 290.5 points on the day and trailed only GCC's 302.5 while the women accumulated 62 points.

Braden Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) led the Pioneers by winning two events.  He won the 200 free (1:56.94) and the 100 back (1:03.32).  Talon Schroeder (Norwich) won the 1000 free (11:58.20), Jake Giglio (Hornell) won the 50 free (23.22) and 2nd in the 100 fly (59.69), and Mark Pendleton (Beacon) was 2nd in the 200 IM (2:21.55).

Pioneers Dive Into New Season

The Alfred State College swimming team dove into the new season with an impressive start in a double-dual meet.  The men defeated Mercyhurst North East 77-14 and Genesee CC 60-35 while the women defeated Mercyhurst North East 30-11 but fell 48-18 to Genesee CC.

Five New Members Inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

2011 Hall of Fame ClassDuring Homecoming 2011, five Alfred State College athletic alumni were inducted into the athletic department hall of fame.  Swimmer John Meade, track & field athlete Damian Rodriguez, lacrosse player Matthew Covert, baseball player Joe Greany, and swimmer Ashley Vogl will join the 56 inducted athletes.

Pioneers Garner Academic Awards

Several Alfred State College athletes have earned honors from the NJCAA, Region III, and the Western New York Athletic Conference for outstanding academic achievements.  Three Pioneers were recipients of the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement, three more were honored with the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, 11 were named Academic All-Region, and 15 were named Academic All-Conference.

Arroyo Named New Alfred State Athletic Director

Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals.  Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.

Pioneer Swimmers finish 11th

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished 11th at the 2011 NJCAA National Championship held at the Flickenger Center in Buffalo.  The women's team finished 16th.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished 11th at the 2011 NJCAA National Championship held at the Flickenger Center in Buffalo.  The women's team finished 16th.

In fourth day action, the 400 free relay team of Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah), Tim Guarino (Cornwall), Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama), and Jake Giglio (Hornell) finished 12th in 3:34.64.

Wright also scored points in the 200 fly with a 16th place finish (2:19.84).

The Pioneers scored 69 points in the championships while the Lady Pioneers scored 1.
