The 400 free relay team of Jake Giglio (Hornell), Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton), Mark Pendleton (Beacon), and Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) finished 12th in the final event of the championships. They touched the pad at 3:30.70.

The 200 free relay team of Jake Giglio (Hornell), Tyler Sherwood (Elmira Southside), Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama), and Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) earned 9th with a swim of 1:34.29.
Mark Pendleton (Beacon) earned points for the team with a 24th place finish in the 200 IM (2:12.80).

Tyler Sherwood (Elmira Southside), Mark Pendleton (Beacon), Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton), and Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) combined to swim a 3:59.02 in the 400 Medley Relay to earn 10th.
Jake Giglio (Hornell) combined with Stellrecht, Sherwood, and Pendleton to swim a 7:59.74 in the 800 free relay to earn 12th.

The NCAA Division III membership committee announced this week that it has granted exploratory status to the Alfred State athletic program. Alfred State submitted the NCAA application in January.

“Moving to NCAA is a natural evolution in creating a four-year college environment at Alfred State. We are excited about the prospects of having our athletes compete for four years wearing the blue & gold,” said Alfred State President, John Anderson.
Indoor track athlete Megan Votava (Alfred Almond) and swimmer Jake Giglio (Hornell) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Votava had a solid showing at the Region III Championships on Friday. She won the pole vault with a 2.60 m leap which established her with the 2nd best all-time mark in the record books. She also set a new school record in the 60 m hurdles (10.04) while finishing 3rd.

Jake Giglio (Hornell) was 3rd in the 100 fly (56.97), 5th in the 100 free (53.24), and 6th in the 50 free (23.48). Tyler Sherwood (Elmira Southside) was 3rd in the 100 back (1:00.78) and 5th in the 200 back (2:17.36). Mark Pendleton (Beacon) was 3rd in the 200 breast (2:32.44), 5th in the 1650 free (19:15.03), and 6th in the 400 IM (4:52.69).

Pendleton finished 3rd in the 200 breast (2:32.44) and earned a 5th place finish in the 1650 free (19:15.03) to pace the Pioneers. Tyler Sherwood (Elmira Southside) was 5th in the 200 back (2:17.36) while Jake Giglio (Hornell) was 5th in the 100 free (53.24).
The 400 free relay team of Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton), Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama), Sherwood, and Giglio finished 3rd in 3:39.16.

Giglio and Sherwood were also part of the 800 free relay team that finished 3rd in 8:10.72. They were joined by Mark Pendleton (Beacon) and Josh Stellrecht (Basom/Oakfield Alabama) on the relay.

Two men's relay teams finished 4th on Friday. The 400 medley relay team of Tyler Sherwood (Elmira Southside), Mark Pendleton (Beacon), Jake Giglio (Hornell), and Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) swam a 4:03.38 and the 200 free relay team of McDowell, Josh Stellrecht (Basom/Oakfield Alabama), Pendleton, Giglio swam a 1:37.48.
In individual events, Giglio finished 6th in the 50 free (23.48).
