Lady Pioneers Split in Myrtle

The Alfred State College softball team split a doubleheader on day two of their trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Lady Pioneers fell 7-1 to Region III foe Genesee CC but bounced back for a 10-1 victory over Dutchess CC.

GCC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back.  Kate Bailey (West Valley) was the lone Lady Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4 with a 2B.  Amber Harding (Fillmore) scored the lone run and connected on a double.

Softball Falls in Season Opener DH

The Alfred State College softball team didn't get the offense going as they fell 7-3 to Mercer (NJ) CC and 8-0 to Sussex (NJ) CC in their 2011 season opener.

The Alfred State College softball team didn't get the offense going as they fell 7-3 to Mercer (NJ) CC and 8-0 to Sussex (NJ) CC in their 2011 season opener.

ASC and Mercer traded runs in the early innings until the Vikings took the lead for good in the 4th inning.  Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley) and Danielle Hill (Addison) each finished 1 for 3 with a RBI while Natalie Sylvester (Perry) and Angela Depew (Wellsville) each collected hits.  Sylvester tossed five innings on the mound allowing two earned runs.

The Alfred State College softball team is hosting a blood drive on Monday, March 7th between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Allegany Room located inside the Central Dining Hall.

Baseball and Softball announce Spring Training Schedules

The Alfred State College baseball and softball teams have announced the schedules for their upcoming spring trips.  The baseball team will be heading to Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL while the softball team will be at Snowbird Softball in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Kids' Night Out Program Starts Saturday

The Alfred State College softball team will host a Kids' Night Out program three Saturday's in February.  Kids' Night Out will take place Feb. 5, 12, and 26 at the Orvis Activities Center from 5:30 p.m. until  8 p.m.

Children will have access to 2.5 hours of fun in the Orvis gymnasium and pool (remember to bring a towel) with Pioneer softball players.  A concession stand will also be available for snacks.

Four to be Inducted into Hall of Fame

Alfred State College will induct four new members into the athletic department Hall of Fame this Friday evening.  Jody Alvarez (women’s soccer), Kirt Zimniewicz (baseball), Alison Brotherton (softball), and Gaffel Hippolyte (track & field) will be inducted at 6 p.m. in the Orvis Activities Center auditorium.

Depew and Nankivell Named All-WNYAC

Alfred State freshmen softball Angie Depew (Wellsville) and Charise Nankivell (Hornell) have been named All-Western New York Athletic Conference.  Depew was a first team selection while Nankivell was second team.

Depew finished the season hitting .429 (39 for 91) with six doubles, a triple, and six homers.  She drove in a team high 28 runs and scored a team high 32 runs.  She finished the year with a .714 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base percentage.  Depew was also 10 for 10 on the base paths.

Lady Pioneers swept by TC3

The Alfred State softball team was swept by the defending NJCAA Division III Champions on Saturday.  ASC fell 11-2 and 15-9 to Tompkins Cortland CC to fall to 13-19 (10-15) on the season.

In the opener, TC3 scored eight in the 1st inning to take full control of the game.  ASC was held to just five hits with Charise Nankivell (Hornell) finishing 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

The Alfred State softball team played tough versus #1 ranked Monroe CC on Tuesday.  ASC fell 5-0 and 6-2 to the Lady Tribunes who improve to 38-13 on the season.

The Lady Pioneers were held to just three hits on the day.  MCC held the Lady Pioneers without a base runner in the first game but ASC got on the board first in game two.  Charise Nankivell (Hornell) singled home Angie Depew (Wellsville) who had doubled earlier in the inning.  Sam Smithgall (Perry) collected the team's other hit in the contest.

Athletic Department Hands Out End of Year Awards

The Alfred State College athletic department presented their annual end-of-year athletic awards during a ceremony held at the Lake Lodge on May 3rd.  The athlete of the year, sportsmanship, leadership, academic, and William Havens awards were presented.
