Arroyo Named New Alfred State Athletic Director

Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals.  Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.

Depew and Harding Named All-WNYAC

Alfred State College sophomore softball players Angela Depew (Wellsville) and Amber Harding (Fillmore) have earned All-WNYAC honors.  Depew was a 1st team selection while Harding was named 2nd team.

Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Academic Awards Handed Out

The Alfred State College athletic department handed out the Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Academic awards recently at the college's annual end of year banquet.  Cody Dill (Unatego) and Angela Depew (Wellsville) were the recipients of the leadership award, Andy Jones (Milford) and Amber Harding (Fillmore) received the sportsmanship awards, and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda), Charise Nankivell (Hornell), and Andrea Presher (Prattsburgh) won the academic awards.

Depew Named All-Region

Sophomore outfielder Angie Depew (Wellsville) has been named 2nd team All-Region following the Lady Pioneers 2011 campaign.  Depew was named All-WNYAC 1st team following her freshman year.

Sophomore outfielder Angie Depew (Wellsville) has been named 2nd team All-Region following the Lady Pioneers 2011 campaign.  Depew was named All-WNYAC 1st team following her freshman year.

Depew hit .360 (36 for 100) on the season for the blue & gold.  She connected on seven doubles, six triples, and two homers.  She drove in 18 runs and scored 25.  She finished the year with a .610 slugging percentage and a .984 fielding percentage.  Depew was also 11 for 13 in stolen base attempts.

Lady Pioneers Close out Season

The Alfred State College softball team closed out their season this weekend with doubleheader losses to Tompkins Cortland CC and Corning CC.  The Lady Pioneers finish the 2011 campaign with a 10-22 overall mark and a 7-15 record in Region III Division III play.

The Alfred State College softball team closed out their season this weekend with doubleheader losses to Tompkins Cortland CC and Corning CC.  The Lady Pioneers finish the 2011 campaign with a 10-22 overall mark and a 7-15 record in Region III Division III play.

Tompkins Cortland scored four in the 3rd to put game one of Saturday's doubleheader out of reach.  The Panthers went on for a 7-2 win.  Angie Depew (Wellsville) was 2 for 3 with a RBI while Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work.

Lady Pioneers Sweep Past FLCC

The Alfred State College softball team swept a pair of games from Finger Lakes CC on Friday.  The Lady Pioneers won the opener 8-0 and won the nightcap 1-0 in walk-off fashion.  ASC is now 10-18 (7-11 Region III Division III).

Eight different Pioneers collected hits as ASC used a four-run 2nd inning and a three run 5th inning to cruise to the victory.  Athena Scavo (Hornell) was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI while Kate Bailey (West Valley) was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.  Natalie Sylvester (Perry) tossed the first four innings allowing just four hits to earn the win.

Softball Moved Back a Day

Thursday's Alfred State College home softball game versus Finger Lakes CC has been moved back one day.  ASC and FLCC will now square off in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

Baseball and Softball Washed Out

Tuesday's Alfred State College baseball and softball doubleheaders have been rained out due to persistent rain and poor field conditions.

Tuesday's Alfred State College baseball and softball doubleheaders have been rained out due to persistent rain and poor field conditions. 

The baseball team, who was scheduled to play at Tompkins Cortland CC, is scheduled to take on Onondaga CC on Wednesday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

The softball team, who was scheduled to host Monore CC, will host Finger Lakes CC at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Lady Pioneers Split with Broome

Playing for the third straight day, the Alfred State College softball team split a doubleheader with Broome CC on Saturday.  ASC won the opener 4-1 but fell 11-4 in the nightcap.

Natalie Sylvester (Perry) tossed a four-hitter in the opener to lead the blue & gold to victory.  She allowed only an unearned run in the 7th inning.  She struck out five on the day.  Athena Scavo (Hornell) was 2 for 3 with a RBI while Angie Depew (Wellsville) was 2 for 2.

Lady Pioneers Offense Struggles vs. MNE

The Alfred State College softball team couldn't get the offense going as they in both halves of a WNYAC doubleheader at Mercyhurst North East.  The Saints no-hit the Pioneers 5-0 in the opener and won 11-3 in the nightcap.

In the opener Bailey Patt tossed a seven inning no-hitter.  She walked just one and struck out six.
