Men's Soccer Wins, Advances to Finals

The Alfred State College men's soccer team advanced to the Region III Division III finals with a 1-0 victory over #3 SUNY Delhi.  The Pioneers, ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, improve to 14-3 on the season and will take on the #1 seeded Herkimer CCC in the finals on Sunday

Koya Takadama (Soma, Japan) netted the lone goal of the game with 1:12 remaining in the first half.  Neither team could put one in the second half as the Pioneers defense recorded its eighth straight shutout.

Six Pioneers Land on All-WNYAC Soccer Team

Alfred State College is represented by six players on the All-WNYAC team announced recently.  Hiroshi Ozaki (Tokyo, Japan), Caleb Drake (Jasper Troupsburg), Lucas Wales (Bath Haverling), and Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) were 1st team selections while Kevin Arilotta (Churchville) and Jason Durst (Gates Chili) were named to the 2nd team.

Alfred State College is represented by six players on the All-WNYAC team announced recently.  Hiroshi Ozaki (Tokyo, Japan), Caleb Drake (Jasper Troupsburg), Lucas Wales (Bath Haverling), and Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) were 1st team selections while Kevin Arilotta (Churchville) and Jason Durst (Gates Chili) were named to the 2nd team.

Ozaki, sophomore defender, is the lone Pioneer to be named All-WNYAC for the second time.  He scored two goals from his defensive position and help lead a defense that has allowed just 0.93 goals per game.

The Alfred State men's soccer team is ranked 5th in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll.  The Pioneers moved up two spots from last week's ranking of 7th.  This is the eighth consecutive week that the team has been ranked in the top 15 rankings.

Pioneers Move On With Shutout

The Alfred State College men's soccer team took advantage of two corner kick opportunities in the second half and downed Tompkins Cortland CC 2-0 in a Region III Division III Tournament quarterfinal match-up.  The #2 seeded Pioneers advance to the semifinals on Saturday where they will take on #3 seeded SUNY Delhi.

Men's Soccer to take on TC3

The Alfred State College men's soccer team will take on Tompkins Cortland CC on Tuesday afternoon in a Region III Division III quarterfinal contest.  Action will begin at 4 p.m. on the college's new athletic complex.

The Pioneers, the #2 seed, had a bye in the first round while the Panthers, the #10 seed upset #7 Genesee CC 2-1.  ASC and TC3 met just a few days ago in the regular season finale for the Blue & Gold.  ASC came out victorious 1-0 behind a goal by Hiroshi Ozaki (Tokyo, Japan).

ASC will await the winner of the first round match-up between #7 Genesee CC and #10 Tompkins Cortland CC.  The Blue & Gold were victorious over each team in the regular season.  Versus Genesee CC early in the season the Pioneers won a wild one 6-5 and just last weekend the team knocked off TCCC 1-0.

Lucas Wales (Bath) and Justin Durst (Gates Chili) each scored two goals in the first half to get the Pioneers off to a quick start.  Kevin Arilotta (Churchville), Koya Takadama (Soma, Japan), and Matt Kooy (Caledonia Mumford) each were credited with assists.

ASC defeated Cayuga CC 2-0 last Friday to improve to 10-3 (10-1 Region III Division III) on the season.  The Pioneers have won nine straight Region III contests and have recorded four straight shutouts.

Kyle Binder (Hornell) got the Pioneers on the board when he scored in the 2nd half after getting a pass from Kevin Arilotta (Churchville).  Arilotta added an insurance goal to cap the scoring.
