Corning Races Back to Down Alfred State

The Alfred State College men's basketball team led for 39 and a half minutes but Corning CC used a big 2nd half run to earn a 76-74 victory.  Corning took their only lead of the game 74-73 with 27 seconds remaining.

The Pioneers led 39-28 at half and led by as many as 15 with just over six minutes left before the Red Barons went on a 25-8 run to close the game.  Nate Acosta scored what proved to be the game winner for CCC.  ASC had a chance as time expired to win the game but a last second shot didn't fall for the blue & gold.

Pioneers Down Orange

The Alfred State College men's basketball team used a strong 2nd half to defeat SUNY Orange 77-68.  The Pioneers are now 3-3 on the season.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team used a strong 2nd half to defeat SUNY Orange 77-68.  The Pioneers are now 3-3 on the season.

Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest led the way with 19 points.  Darin Butts (Jamestown) added 17 points, Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hills) finished with 14, and Dashino Charles (Elizabeth, NJ) chipped in 10. Thomas Stein (Caledonia Mumford) had 8.

The Pioneers trailed 41-40 at halftime.

ASC returns home on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest with Corning CC.

Big Second Half Propels CCBC

After a cold shooting first half, the CC of Beaver County shot 58.1% in the second half and were able to expand on their one-point halftime lead en route to a 81-65 victory.  The Pioneers fall to 2-3 on the season.

CCBC led 27-26 at half but connected on 18 of their 31 shots (5 of 8 three pointers) from the field and 13 of their 18 foul shots to push away from ASC.

Pioneers Fall in Final Seconds

Cayuga CC broke a 67-67 tie in the final seconds to spoil the Alfred State comeback en route to a 70-67 victory on Tuesday night.  ASC is now 2-2 on the year.

The Pioneers started slow and trailed 41-32 at half but they chipped away in the 2nd half and tied the game at 64-64 with three minutes left.  The game was still tied at 67-67 when the Spartans scored with 13 seconds left to take the lead for good.  ASC was unable to capitlize on their next possession and couldn't tie it up in the final seconds after CCC hit a foul shot to up the lead to three.

Pioneers Down Queensborough

All five starters scored in double digits as the Alfred State College men's basketball defeated Queensborough CC in the consolation game of the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament 89-83.

Patrick Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) led ASC with 28 points.  Kadeem Hillman (Buffalo/International Prep) had 12, Darin Butts (Jamestown) had 11, and DaQuan Allen (Brooklyn/Boys & Girls) and Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hills) both chipped in 10.

The Pioneers, who improve to 2-1 on the year, led 45-31 at halftime and held off all QCC's comeback attempts.

Pioneers Drop Opener at MVCC Tourney

The Alfred State College men's basketball team was tripped up 84-71 by Mohawk Valley CC in the first round of the MVCC Tournament.  ASC is now 1-1 on the young season.

Kadeem Hillman (Buffalo/International Prep) led the Pioneers with 22 points while DaQuan Allen (Brooklyn/Boys & Girls) added 13.  Patrick Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) also finished in double figures with 11.

The Pioneers will take on Queensbourough CC on Saturday in the consolation game.  Tip-off is at Noon in Utica.

Pioneers Down Hornets

The Alfred State College men's basketball team opened up their 2011-12 season with a 88-75 victory over Broome CC on Tuesday.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team opened up their 2011-12 season with a 88-75 victory over Broome CC on Tuesday.

Patrick Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) scored 17 of his team high 21 points in the second half while Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hills) added 19 points (4 three-pointers).  Darin Butts (Jamestown) and Dashino Charles (Elizabeth, NJ) each finished with 13.

The Pioneers led 39-29 at half and never trailed in the second.

Men's Basketball to Host Blood Drive

The Alfred State College men's basketball team has teamed up with the Community Blood Bank to host a blood drive on September 27.  If you donate at this drive you will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Buffalo Sabres tickets.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team has teamed up with the Community Blood Bank to host a blood drive on September 27.  If you donate at this drive you will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Buffalo Sabres tickets.

The blood drive will be held in the Braddon Hall Lounge from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Tuesday the 27th.  Interested donors can sign up for a time with a men's basketball player or people can just walk-in.

One lucky donor this month to the Community Blood Bank will receive two tickets to the Sabres vs. Florida Panthers game on October 29.

Pioneers Garner Academic Awards

Several Alfred State College athletes have earned honors from the NJCAA, Region III, and the Western New York Athletic Conference for outstanding academic achievements.  Three Pioneers were recipients of the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement, three more were honored with the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, 11 were named Academic All-Region, and 15 were named Academic All-Conference.

Arroyo Named New Alfred State Athletic Director

Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals.  Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.
