Pioneers Can't Solve Tribunes

After limiting Monroe CC to just 19 points in the 1st half, the Alfred State men's basketball team couldn't hold the Tribunes offense down in the 2nd half and fell 62-39 to the Tribunes.  ASC is now 5-11 overall and 0-3 in WNYAC play.

Isiah Jefferson led Monroe with 19 points.  MCC shot just 24.1% in the 1st half and led 19-12 at half but shot 51.4% in the 2nd to cruise to their 10th victory of the season (10-8, 1-1 WNYAC).

#8 Erie CC had 13 different players score as they downed Alfred State 84-60 in their first home game of 2012.  ECC raced out to a 40-19 lead at halftime behind 41% shooting and six three-pointers.

Dequan Jones led the Kats (11-2, 1-0 WNYAC) with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Sam Hattin finished with 12 points and 11 boards.  Haruna Sule also finished in double figures with 12.  ECC shot 40.8% from the field for the game and connected on 13 of 41 three-point attempts.  They also forced ASC into 21 turnovers.

2nd Half Rally Falls Short

The Alfred State College men's basketball team trailed by as many as 11 in the 2nd half but rallied to cut the lead to two points in the final minute but could fully overcome the deficit.  JCC-Olean earned the 72-68 victory in the WNYAC opener for the Pioneers.

ASC trailed 32-30 at half but the Jaguars built an 11-point lead early on in the 2nd.  ASC cut it to a one possession game but was slowed down by four missed foul shots and two turnovers in their final two possessions.

Parker and Race Named ASC Athletes of the Week

Sophomore basketball player Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) and freshman wrestler Zach Race (Fulton/G Ray Bodley) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the SID office.

Parker netted a career high 31 points in the Pioneers lone contest of the week at #20 CC of Beaver County.  He was 11 for 25 from the field and 5 for 15 from three in the contest.  He also grabbed seven rebounds and was credited with four steals.  It was the 5th time this season Parker scored more than 20 points in a contest.

The Pioneers trailed 49-43 at halftime, led by Parker's 18 points but neither team had much success stopping the other team's offense.  ASC finished the contest with 13 made three-pointers.

Harcum Downs Pioneers

The Alfred State College men's basketball team hung tough in the 1st half but could not overcome a early 2nd half run and fell 92-63 to Harcum College at the Monroe College Invitational.

The Pioneers trailed just 45-34 vs. the high powered of Harcum.  Harcum came out of the break and put together a 15-0 run and never looked back.

Dashino Charles (Elizabeth, NJ) led the blue & gold with 14 points and six rebounds while Patrick Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team could not solve #1 ranked Monroe College (New Rochelle, NY) in the first day of the Mustang Invitational.  Monroe raced to a 77-37 victory.

Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) led the Pioneers with 15 points on the day.

Monroe led 44-18 at half as they improved to 9-0 on the year.

The Pioneers take on Harcum (Philadelphia, PA) College in the second day of the tournament.  Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team downed Finger Lakes CC 62-54 as they took the court for the first time in ten days.  The Pioneers are now 5-5 on the year.

The Pioneers led 31-25 at halftime and led by as many as 18 points.  They led 62-44 but the Lakers scored the final 10 points of the game.

DaQuan Allen (Brooklyn/Boys & Girls) led the blue & gold with 15 points and five assists.  Darrin Butts (Jamestown) added 14 points and Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hills) chipped in 10.

Slow Start Dooms Pioneers

The Alfred State College men's basketball team shot shot 28.1% from the field in the 1st half and fell behind 37-21 to Fulton Montgomery CC and could never recover.  FMCC went on to win the ASC Tournament championship with a 80-70 victory.

Tournament MVP Wynn Adams led the Raiders with 18 points, six rebounds, and six assists.  Saquan Palin finished with 13 points and nine boards and Tremoyne Frazier chipped in 12 points and five assists.

Fast Start Lifts Pioneers to Finals

The Alfred State College men's basketball team outscored Northern Essex CC 22-5 in the first nine minutes of the contest en route to a 71-59 victory in the 1st round of the ASC Tournament.  The Pioneers will take on Fulton Montgomery CC in the championship game tomorrow.

ASC raced out to the 17-point early lead and led by 13 at half, 35-22.  They extended their lead to 65-35 but NECC made a comeback and closed the game to 68-59 but couldn't get any closer.
