Men's Basketball Fall in Opener

The Alfred State College men's basketball team fell 74-63 to Delaware Tech in their 2008-09 season opener at the Monroe CC Classic on Saturday.

Chris Dalton (Elmira Southside) was the only Pioneer in double figures.  He was 5 for 12 from three-point land and led the team with 24 points.  Neil Wilson (Fort Worth, TX) and Terrell Williams (Rochester/Marshall) both finished with nine points.

Marshall earns another award

Alfred State College sophomore guard Dusty Marshall (Newfield) has been honored for the third time this postseason.  Marshall who was previously named 1st team All-Region and 1st team All-Region adds a 2nd team Basketball Coaches Association of New York 2nd team honor.

Four Hoopsters Earn Honors

Four members of the Alfred State College men's basketball teams have earned postseason honors.  Dusty Marshall (Newfield) was named All-Region 1st team and All-WNYAC 1st team while Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) was a 3rd team selection to both the All-Region and All-WNYAC teams.  Dan Foley (Irondequoit) and Pat White (Warren, OH) were both selected honorable mention All-WNYAC.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team shot just 35.5% from the floor and saw their season come to an end in a 59-54 loss to Genesee CC in a Region III Division II Tournament First Round contest.  The Pioneers end the season with a 19-11 record while the Cougars (13-15) advance to the semifinals to take on #1 Erie CC on Saturday afternoon at Jamestown CC.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team has earned the #4 seed in this week's Region III Division II Tournament.  The Pioneers will host a first round tournament contest on Tuesday evening versus #5 Genesee CC.

The Pioneers enter the contest with a 19-10 overall mark and a 8-6 record in Region III Division II play.  They defeated Genesee CC 98-95 in overtime and downed Niagara County CC 92-79 in the final week of the regular season to earn the 4th seed.

Pioneers Win Overtime Thriller

The Alfred State College men's basketball team downed Genesee CC in a hard fought WNYAC battle, 98-95 in overtime.  With the win the Pioneers improve to 18-10 (7-6 WNYAC) while the Cougars fall to 12-14 (8-5 WNYAC).

Pioneers can't overcome slow start

The Alfred State College men's basketball team fell behind 13-2 in the opening three minutes of the contest and could never fully recover in a 75-67 loss to Mercyhurst North East.  The Saints improve to 16-11 (5-8 WNYAC) while the Pioneers fall to 17-10 (6-6 WNYAC).

Mario McGee led the Saints with 21 points, eight assists, and six boards while Leon Rollins chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Demetrelle Drayton finished with 13 and George Cox added 11.

Blue and Gold down Olean

The Alfred State College men's basketball team picked up their 17th win of the season with a 79-72 victory at JCC-Olean on Thursday evening.  The Pioneers are now 17-9 overall and 6-5 in WNYAC action.

Cerrone Jackson (Forrest Hills) led A-State with 16 points while Dusty Marshall (Newfield) chipped in 15.  Pat White (Warren, OH) and Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) each finished with 12 each.

The Blue and Gold return to their home court on Saturday when they battle Mercyhurst North East.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
