Pioneers fall to #3 Monroe

Monroe CC hit 59% of their first half shots to build a 46-29 halftime lead en route to a 84-68 victory over Alfred State on Tuesday evening.  The Tribunes, #3 in NJCAA Division III, improve to 15-1 (2-1 WNYAC) on the season while the Pioneers fall to 9-11 (3-2 WNYAC).

Bobby Bell connected on five three pointers and finished tied for a team high with 17 points.  Aaron Williams came of the bench and chipped in 17 while Shyrone Carter finished with 15.  Antonio Williams recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for MCC.

Jamestown CC used a late 11-1 run to propel to a 76-74 victory over Alfred State in a tight WNYAC contest on Saturday.  The loss snaps a three-game winning streak and drops the Pioneers to 9-10 overall and 3-1 in WNYAC action.

The Pioneers trailed by 12 in the second half but went on a big run to grab a 65-59 lead with 2:30 minutes left before the Jayhawks answered back with a 11-1 run that featured a key four-point play (three-pointer and a foul shot) that gave them a 69-66 lead with 30 seconds remaining.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) hit six three-pointers as the Alfred State College men's basketball team won their third straight contest 71-55 over Mercyhurst North East.  The Pioneers even their record up at 9-9 and are now 3-0 in WNYAC play.

Pioneers Rally for Victory

The Alfred State College men's basketball team by as many as 11 points with 12 minutes remaining but rallied for a 71-65 victory over JCC-Olean on Tuesday evening.  The victory improves the Pioneers to 8-9 overall and 2-0 in WNYAC action.

The Jaguars led 33-26 at halftime and increased the lead to 11 in the first eight minutes of the second half.  The Pioneers rallied and then took the lead for good when Chris Dalton (Elmira Southside) hit two straight three-pointers with around five minutes remaining.

Athletic Department Launches New Facebook Page

The Alfred State College athletic department has launched a new facebook page with hopes of creating a more interactive experience for current, future, and past Pioneer athletes and fans to interact.

The new page features pictures, home event schedules, and is fully interactive.  Visitors are encouraged to post their own comments, pictures, and thoughts about Pioneers athletics.

ASC Closes 2009 with Hard Fought Loss to Lakeland

Lakeland (OH) CC won a hard fought 60-48 contest over Alfred State as the Pioneers close out the 2009 portion of their season.  ASC heads into the winter break with a 6-9 mark.

Nate Barnes led Lakeland with 15 points while Darrel Lampley added 13 points as the Lakers held off every Pioneer rally after building a 27-21 halftime lead.  Klein Harper added five boards and 11 rebounds for LCC.

Pioneers Can't Solve ASA

The Alfred State College men's basketball team couldn't hand ASA (Brooklyn) their first loss of the season.  The Pioneers (6-8) fell 97-63 to the Avengers in a contest played at Genesee CC.

Neil Wilson (Fort Worth, TX) was the lone Pioneer that finished in double-figures.  He netted 19 points. 

ASA led 41-25 at half but the ASC cut it to 54-43 with 11 minutes left but the Avengers (8-0) were able to put the game out of reach with transition points and by solving the Pioneer press.

The Alfred State College men's basketball team fell 75-61 to CC of Beaver County in the consolation game of the Lakeland (OH) CC Tournament.  ASC falls to 6-7 on the year.

Younatan Gobezai (Bethesda, MD) led the Pioneers with 14 points while Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) added 13.  Chris Dalton (Elmira Southside) scored 11 and Sir Aaron Taylor (Lincoln Hall) finished with 15 rebounds and six points.

The Pioneers fell behind 39-22 at half and never could mount a full comeback.
