Lax Wins Season Opener

The Alfred State College lacrosse team won their season opener 11-9 over Harford (Bel Air, MD) on Thursday afternoon.  Four different Pioneers found the back of the net in the victory.

Bill Jolly (Waterloo) led A-State with five goals while William Ardolino (William Floyd) pumped in four goals.  Mitch Wensel (Corning East) and Ben Rossignolo (Churchville Chili) each netted a goal while Josh Mateo (Waterloo) passed out two assists.

Jeff Fabbri (West Warwick, RI) made 13 saves in net for the Blue and Gold.

Lax Team Ready for Action

The Alfred State College lacrosse team will look to return to the Region III Tournament as they blend experience with a group of talented newcomers.  The Pioneers are scheduled to open up their season on Sunday afternoon on the on-campus athletic complex versus Elmira JV.

Bova and Wensel named All-WNYAC

Lacrosse players Jeremiah Bova (Salamanca) and Mitch Wensel (Corning East) have added another recognition to their freshmen campaigns.  Both Bova and Wensel were named to the All-Western New York Athletic Conference team.

Lacrosse players Jeremiah Bova (Salamanca) and Mitch Wensel (Corning East) have added another recognition to their freshmen campaigns.  Both Bova and Wensel were named to the All-Western New York Athletic Conference team.

Bova appeared in net in all ten games for the Blue and Gold and made nine starts.  He logged 476 minutes, made 192 saves, and finished with a save percentage of 66%.

Goaltender Jeremiah Bova (Salamanca) and attackmen Mitch Wensel (Corning East) have been named All-Region III Honorable Mention.

Goaltender Jeremiah Bova (Salamanca) and attackmen Mitch Wensel (Corning East) have been named All-Region III Honorable Mention.

Bova started in nine of the Pioneers ten games in net.  He played 476 minutes and made 192 saves for the Pioneers.  He had a save percentage of 66%.

Wensel led the Blue and Gold in goals, assists, and points.  He netted 21 goals and passed out six assists.  He also scored all three of the team's game winning goals.

A-State finished the 2007 campaign with a 3-7 record with five of the losses coming to ranked opponents.
