Scepaniak Signs with Northern Michigan

Alfred State College quarterback Cody Scepaniak (Vestal) has signed and is enrolled this spring at Northern Michigan University.  Scepaniak will compete for the starting quarterback job this spring and fall for the Wildcats.

Alfred State College quarterback Cody Scepaniak (Vestal) has signed and is enrolled this spring at Northern Michigan University.  Scepaniak will compete for the starting quarterback job this spring and fall for the Wildcats.

Scepaniak was 60 for 138 yards and six scores for the Pioneers in 2010.  He passed for 819 yards, rushed for a team high 244 yards on 109 carries, and caught nine passes for 100 yards.

Alfred State College sophomore safety Sir Aaron Taylor (Westchester/Lincoln Hall) and freshman punter Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) have been named to the NJCAA All-American team.  This is the third time in Coach Mick Caba’s tenure that two players have been named All-American in the same year.

Ten Pioneers Earn All-NFC Honors

Ten members of the Alfred State College football team have earned All-NFC honors.  Sir Aaron Taylor (West Cheter/Lincoln Hall), Colter Johnson (Warren, PA), and Josh Griffin (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) were named to the 1st team, Kyle Ricks (Alexandria, VA/Mt. Vernon) was named 2nd team, and Cody Scepanik (Vestal), Devin Simmons (Elmira Free), Wade Hammond (Walton), Nick DePofi (Union Endicott), Justin Smith (Richmond, VA/CD Hylton), and Damion King (Detroit, MI/Madison Heights) were all 3rd team selections.

Harrington Named Co-Player of the Week

Alfred State College freshman cornerback Brett Harrington (Rochester/Edison) has been named the Northeast Football Conference co-special teams player of the week.

Alfred State College freshman cornerback Brett Harrington (Rochester/Edison) has been named the Northeast Football Conference co-special teams player of the week.

Harrington had a big day blocking kicks as the Pioneers battled Louisburg College.  He blocked a 43-yard field goal attempt in the 2nd quarter and then blocked a PAT attempt in the final seconds of the first half.  After blocking the PAT, Harrington scooped the ball up and returned it for the defensive two-point conversion.  On the defensive side of the ball he added three tackles.

Pioneers Fall in Season Finale

In a wild game that featured seven interceptions and four blocked kicks, Louisburg College (NC) defeated Alfred State 23-12 to wrap up the 2010 season.  The Pioneers end the season with a 4-6 record.

Each team traded field goals in the 1st quarter with Louisburg hitting a 31 yarder with 6:57 remaining and Josh Franchina (Cassadaga Valley) connecting on a 28-yard attempt with 27 seconds remaining.

Johnson Named National and NFC Player of the Week

Alfred State College freshman punter Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) has been named the Northeast Football Conference special teams player of the week.  Johnson had a solid day as the Pioneers battled #8 Nassau CC.

Johnson punted three times on the day for 137 yards good for an average of 45.7 yards.  He had a long of 52 yards on the day.

The Alfred State College football team fell 42-34 in a valiant effort to #8 Nassau CC in their 2010 home finale. The Pioneers head into the final week of the season with a 4-5 mark while the Lions remain undefeated, 10-0.

NCC got on the board first capitalizing on a Pioneer turnover.  Steven Miller rushed in from 2-yards out just 21 seconds into the game to make it 7-0.

4th Quarter Rally Falls Short

The Alfred State College football team dug themselves into too big a hole and fell 27-14 to Dean College.  The Pioneers are now 4-4 on the year while the Bulldogs are 6-3.

Dean put together scoring drives in each of the first two quarters.  They put together a 60-yard scoring drive in the 1st and a 80-yard drive in the 2nd.

The Bulldogs looked to put the game out of reach in the 3rd with two scroing drives to lead 27-0 heading into the 4th quarter.

Lackawanna Proves Too Much for Pioneers

Lackawanna College scored 36 unanswered points to erase a early 3-0 deficit en route to a 36-17 victory over Alfred State in a NFC contest on Saturday.  The Falcons are now 6-2 (3-2 NFC) while the Pioneers are 4-3 (1-3).

Josh Franchina (Cassadaga Valley) gave the Pioneers an early 3-0 lead when he connected on a 21-yard field goal just 4:42 into the game.  The field goal capped an opening 11-play drive that covered 75 yards.
