Eight Football Players Named All-Region

Eight members of the Alfred State football team have been named All-Region following the Pioneers 5-4 season. The blue & gold finished the year as the runner-up in Region III.

Colton Caldwell (Dublin, OH) was named Co-Offensive player of the year while Sammy Diaz (Dansville), Dileel Bartley (Rochester/Edison) and Erik Simmons (Elmira Free) were all named to the All-Region offensive team.  Thomas Daniels (Bronx/ICE), David Howell (Rochester/Greece Athena), Collin Frazer (Woodbridge, VA), and Michael Gibson (Capital Heights, MD) were named to the defensive team.  Fr

Ognibene and Joyner Named Athletes of the Week

Wrestler Dan Ognibene (Alexander) and football player Alonzo Joyner (Queens) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Wrestler Dan Ognibene (Alexander) and football player Alonzo Joyner (Queens) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week. 

Ognibene was 4-2 at the Ursinus Fall Brawl over the weekend.  He opened the day with a 7-0 victory over Brett Ackerley (Delaware Valley). He fell in his next match but rebounded with three straight consolation bracket victories; 2-0 over Matt Jorgensen (Delaware Valley), a pin of Jacob Sentz (Stevens), and a 6-1 win over Steven Paul (Elizabethtown).

Pioneers End Season with Victory

Special teams and turnovers played a huge part as Alfred State defeated Hudson Valley CC 30-24 to close out the 2012 season. The win improves the Pioneers to 5-4 and secures the program's eighth .500 or better season during Head Coach Mick Caba's tenure.

The Pioneers got on the board in their first possession when Sammy Diaz (Dansville) capped the eight-play 60-yard drive with an eight-yard run.

Fanning and Frazier Honored by Region and Alfred State

Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) and Collin Frazier (Woodbridge, VA) have been named the Region III athletes of the week and the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Fanning led the Lady Pioneers to a 3-0 record and the title at the SUNY Delhi Tournament.  She averaged 17.7 points per game and 6.3 rebounds.  She had 10 points and 13 rebounds vs. Broome CC, 17 points and seven rebounds vs. Sullivan County, and 23 points and seven rebounds vs.

Pioneers Tame Ogres

The Alfred State football team raced out to a big lead and defeated the Onondaga Ogres FC 34-20 to even their record at 4-4 and snap a three-game losing streak.

Caba Part of NJCAA Hall of Fame Class

Alfred State Football coach Mick Caba is part of the 2012 NJCAA Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class. Caba, in his 13th season at the helm of the Pioneer football program is joined in the class by Terrence Cody (defensive linemen from Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) and the 1983 Coffeyville CC football team.

Alfred State Football coach Mick Caba is part of the 2012 NJCAA Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class.

Knights Trip Up Pioneers

Southern Virginia University took advantage of three Alfred State turnovers and ten penalties in a 21-6 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improve to 3-6 on the year while the Pioneers fall to 3-4.

Neither team could get on the board in the 1st half until the final minutes when SVU put together a seven-play 74-yard drive.  Cameron Williams caught a 4-yard pass from Andy Jones to cap the drive in which Alfred was called for two personal fouls.
