Cross Country Remains Near Top of National Poll

The Alfred State College cross country program remained near the top in the latest NJCAA poll.  The women's team remained ranked #2 while the men jumped up a spot and are now ranked #3.

The Pioneers did not compete this past week and have been busy preparing for this Saturday's University of Rochester Invitational.  The meet will be the final tune-up before the team competes at the Region III Championships at Mohawk Valley CC on October 25.

The men's and women's cross country teams have both received national recognition this week with the women ranked 2nd and the men ranked 4th in the latest NJCAA Division III poll.

The women finished fifth at the CC of Rhode Island Tri-State Invitational, a race run predominantly by four year colleges.  The women also recently finished seventh at The Highlander Invitational at Houghton College.

Both the Alfred State College men's and women's cross country teams earned 5th place finishes at the CC of Rhode Island Invitational.  The race featured 13 schools and was a preview of the National Championship that will be held at CCRI on November 8.

The Alfred State College cross country team remained in the top five of the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  The women's team remained ranked #3 while the men moved up and are tied for #3.  Both teams had solid performances at the Houghton College Invitational last weekend.

Cross Country Compete Well at Houghton Invitational

The men's and women's cross country teams both competed well at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College.  The men captured 3rd place out of eight teams while the women finished in 7th place.

On the men's side, John Sweeney (Barker) had the best time for the Pioneers finishing 11th (27:40.60) in the race of 83 runners.  Corey Smith (Wallkill) and Logan Drummer (Pioneer) also had top 25 finishes coming in 19th (28:16.10) and 24th (28:57.50) respectively.

The women's team won the FLCC Bruce Bridgeman Invitational on Friday.  Ashley Fung (Greenwich) was the top ASC finisher.  She finished the tough 5K course in 2nd place with a time of 21:38.  Mohawk Valley is currently ranked #1 while SUNY Delhi is #2.  Alfred State is 3rd with 270 points in the poll.

Cross Country Teams Move Up Poll to #5

Both the men's and women's cross country teams at Alfred State moved up the polls in the latest NJCAA Division III rankings.  The men's team is currently ranked #5 while the women share the #5 ranking with Hudson Valley CC.

The men received 150 points in the latest poll after winning the Alfred State College Invitational over the weekend.  John Sweeney (Barker) won the 5-mile race with a time of 30:57.94.  

SUNY Delhi remains #1, Mohawk Valley CC is #2, Broome CC is #6, and Finger Lakes CC is #10.

Cross Country wins ASC Invitational

The Alfred State College men's cross country team won their own invitational as they opened up the 2008 season.  Alfred State's John Sweeney (Barker) won the men's race while Lady Pioneer Ashley Fung (Greenwich) won the women's race.

In the men's 8K race, Alfred State scored 34 points, Broome CC finished with 52 points, Belmont Abbey College finished 3rd (63), and Finger Lakes CC finished 4th (80).  Erie CC did not field a full team.
