Jamestown CC swept a pair from Alfred State in a WNYAC doubleheader on Saturday.  JCC scored two in the 7th for a walk-off 4-3 victory in game one and then shutout the Pioneers 2-0 in the nightcap.

The Alfred State College baseball team could not muster much offense as they were swept by identical 1-0 scores by Monroe CC.  ASC is now 3-5 in the fall season.

In the opener, the Pioneers were held to two singles and allowed an unearned run in the 4th inning.  Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) took the hard luck loss allowing just two singles in seven innings of work.  He walked four and struck out four.

Four to be Inducted into Hall of Fame

Alfred State College will induct four new members into the athletic department Hall of Fame this Friday evening.  Jody Alvarez (women’s soccer), Kirt Zimniewicz (baseball), Alison Brotherton (softball), and Gaffel Hippolyte (track & field) will be inducted at 6 p.m. in the Orvis Activities Center auditorium.

Baseball Splits with Erie

The Alfred State College baseball team split a WNYAC doubleheader vs. Erie CC on Sunday afternoon.  The Kats won the opener 9-7 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 2-0.  ASC is now 3-3 on the season.

In the nightcap, John Whitehead (Amherst) tossed a complete game two-hitter.  He allowed just a single in the 2nd and a single in the 6th.  He finished with four walks and a strikeout in picking up his first win of the fall season.

Pioneers Sweep Thunderwolves

The Alfred State College baseball team swept a pair of WNYAC contests from Niagara CCC, 1-0 & 5-2, to open up the home portion of the fall season.  ASC is now 2-2 on the young season.

Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) tossed a complete game shutout in the opener to pace the Pioneers.  He allowed six hits while walking one and striking out six Thunderwolves.

Alfred scored the lone run of the game in the 4th when Lukas Schuetz (Schwechat, Austria) scored on a ground ball by Rudy Galan (Bronx/Monroe).  ASC was held to just three singles in the game.

The Alfred State College baseball team fell 5-4 and 4-3 to Mercyhurst North East as they opened up play in their 2010 fall season.  The Saints broke a 4-4 tie in the first game with a run in the bottom of the 6th and used a walk-off single in the 7th to win the nightcap.

In the opener, ASC rallied from a 4-0 deficit with a four run 6th inning.  Travis Fenstermaker (LeRoy) had the key two run single to tie the game.  MNE answered back with a single run in the 6th and held off a Pioneer rally in the 7th.  The game ended with Pioneer runners on 1st and 2nd.

Six Pioneer Baseball Players Earn All-Region

Six members of the Alfred State College baseball team have earned All-Region honors.  JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Jake Dale (Keshequa) were named to the 1st team while Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads), Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan), Brian Zimmermann (Frontier), and Joe Wallace (Avoca) were 2nd team selections.

Six members of the Alfred State College baseball team have earned All-Region honors.  JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Jake Dale (Keshequa) were named to the 1st team while Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads), Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan), Brian Zimmermann (Frontier), and Joe Wallace (Avoca) were 2nd team selections.

Frey led the blue & gold with a .437 batting average (62 for 142).  He collected 11 doubles, three triples, a homer, and 26 RBI on the season.  He also was 17 for 19 in stolen bases and scored 40 runs.

Pioneer Baseball Season Ends After Split

The Alfred State College baseball team downed Mercyhurst North East 13-8 in the Region III Division II Tournament to keep their season alive but fell 9-6 to Monroe CC in the loser bracket final to see their season end with a 20-20 record.

The Alfred State College baseball team downed Mercyhurst North East 13-8 in the Region III Division II Tournament to keep their season alive but fell 9-6 to Monroe CC in the loser bracket final to see their season end with a 20-20 record.

Mercyhurst North East led 5-1 after five innings but the Pioneers scored the games next 12 runs to take control of the contest.  ASC collected 11 hits and drew 10 walks on the day.

Baseball Regionals Day 2 Moved to Bolivar

Day 2 of the Region III Division II Baseball Tournament has been moved to Bolivar Richburg High School due to wet weather overnight. 

Alfred State will take on Mercyhurst North East starting at 11 a.m. followed by Monroe CC taking on Genesee CC at 2 p.m.  The winner of the ASC/MNE game will take on the loser of the MCC/GCC game at 5 p.m.

Day 2 of the Region III Division II Baseball Tournament has been moved to Bolivar Richburg High School due to wet weather overnight. 

Alfred State will take on Mercyhurst North East starting at 11 a.m. followed by Monroe CC taking on Genesee CC at 2 p.m.  The winner of the ASC/MNE game will take on the loser of the MCC/GCC game at 5 p.m.

Pioneers One Hit By Monroe

Ronnie Stout held Alfred State to one-hit as Monroe CC earned a 10-0 victory in a first round Region III Division II Tournament contest on Friday afternoon.

Ronnie Stout held Alfred State to one-hit as Monroe CC earned a 10-0 victory in a first round Region III Division II Tournament contest on Friday afternoon.

Monroe scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd but exploded for six runs in the 3rd to break open the game.  They added two more in the 4th to cap the scoring.

Jake Dale (Keshequa) collected the lone hit of the game on a second inning single.

Stout walked one and struck out four on the mound and was 3 for 3 with a RBI.  Ben Gielow was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and Chase Grissom was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
