Frey Named Region Athlete of the Week

Alfred State College sophomore baseball player JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) has been named the co-Region III male athlete of the week.  Frey shares the honor with Genesee CC lacrosse player Gaehnew Printup.

Alfred State College sophomore baseball player JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) has been named the co-Region III male athlete of the week.  Frey shares the honor with Genesee CC lacrosse player Gaehnew Printup.

Frey was 12 for 22 in six contests for the Pioneers (4-2 this past week).  He collected two doubles, two triples, and 5 RBI.  He stole seven bases and scored 11 runs.  He also recorded three outfield assists in one game.

On the year, Frey is hitting .413 with 10 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Pioneers offense struggles at Erie

The Alfred State College baseball team couldn't string together much offense as they fell 5-1 and 10-2 at Erie CC on Tuesday.

The Alfred State College baseball team couldn't string together much offense as they fell 5-1 and 10-2 at Erie CC on Tuesday.  The Pioneers fall to 8-7 overall on the year and 4-4 in Region III Division III play.

Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) was 2 for 3 while Dennis Dueno (Brooklyn/Bishop Ford) was 2 for 4 in the opener.  Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) allowed two earned runs in six innings of work and took the loss.  He walked two and struck out seven.

For the second day in a row, Alfred State and Jamestown CC split a Region III Division III twinbill at Bolivar Richburg High School.  The Pioneers won the opener 14-12 but JCC rallied for a 5-3 victory in game two.

The Alfred State College baseball team split a Region III Division III doubleheader versus Jamestown CC on Saturday dropping the opener 7-1 and winning the nightcap 5-1.

Playing for the first time in three weeks, the Alfred State College baseball team opened up Region III Division III play by sweeping Corning CC, 7-4 and 13-0, at Tuller Field.

Playing for the first time in three weeks, the Alfred State College baseball team opened up Region III Division III play by sweeping Corning CC, 7-4 and 13-0, at Tuller Field.  The Pioneers, winners of six in a row, are now 6-3.

Andrew Alexander (LeRoy), Anthony Espe (Union Endicott) and JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) all were 2 for 3 to pace the offense.  Alexander also drove in two.  Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) earned the win with a complete game six hitter.  He allowed three earned runs while striking out five and walking two.

Pioneers Squeeze Past Rock Valley

The Alfred State College baseball team closed out their trip to Cocoa, FL by squeezing past Rock Valley (IL) College 2-1 on Thursday.  The blue & gold won their final four games of their trip to head back to Alfred with a 4-3 mark.

With one out in the bottom of the 7th, Anthony Espe (Union Endicott) executed a squeeze play that plated Travis Fenstermaker (LeRoy) with the winning run.

Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) led the offense with a 2 for 2 day while Fenstermaker was 2 for 3.  Kevan Smith (Cicero North Syracuse) drove home a run in the 4th.

The Alfred State College baseball team evened up their record at 3-3 with their third straight victory, 7-4 over Franciscan University (OH) JV on Wednesday.

Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) led the Pioneers with a 3 for 4 day with 2 RBI while Kevan Smith (Cicero North Syracuse) and Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) were each 2 for 2.  Dennis Dueno (Brooklyn/Bishop Ford) and Travis Fenstermake (LeRoy) both were 2 for 4 on the day.

Pioneers Blanks Alice Lloyd

Anthony Espe (Union Endicott) led the Alfred State College baseball team in a 10-0 victory over Alice Lloyd (KY) College JV on Tuesday.  The win improves the Pioneers to 2-3 on their trip to Cocoa, FL.

Espe finished 4 for 4 with 5 RBI on the day while JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Dennis Dueno (Brooklyn/Bishop Ford) was 2 for 3 and Garrett Hoag (Dansville) drove in two and finished 1 for 3 on the day.

The Pioneers scored three runs in the 1st, 4th, and 5th innings to take full control of the contest.
