Pioneers drop opener

The Alfred State College baseball team couldn't rally all the way back and fell 8-5 to North Iowa Area CC in their 2008 season opener at Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.

The Alfred State College baseball team couldn't rally all the way back and fell 8-5 to North Iowa Area CC in their 2008 season opener at Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.

The Pioneers and the Trojans were scoreless until the 4th inning when NIACC scored four runs to take control of the game.  The Trojans added three more runs in the 5th before the Pioneers scored five runs in the 5th to cut it to 7-5.  North Iowa added an insurance run to secure the victory.

Baseball Set For Opening Pitch

The Alfred State College baseball team opens up their 2008 season this week as they head south for their annual trip to Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneers were 10-6 during the Fall season and were 48-16 during the 2006-07 school year.

Head Coach Tom Kenney (541-240-1, 14th season) will count on the leadership of Kevin Underhill (Somers) and Jeff Benchich (Millbrook), as the team will look to make a run towards the programs sixth Region III Championship.

A-State to Induct Three into Hall of Fame

The Alfred State College athletic department will induct three new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame on January 26.  Kathryn Stedman (volleyball & softball), Joseba Sarriegui (cross country & track & field), and Mike Brown (baseball) will be inducted at a brunch ceremony in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall and then honored in between games of the basketball doubleheader with Jamestown CC the same afternoon.

Five Pioneers Named to All-WNYAC Baseball Team

Five members of the Alfred State College fall baseball team have been named All-WNYAC following the Pioneers 10-6 season.  Kevin Underhill (Somers) was a 1st team selection, Jeff Benchich (Millbrook), Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas), and Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) was named to the 2nd team, and Jeff Paul (Horseheads) was named honorable mention.

Pioneers fall in WNYAC Semis

Genesee CC was able to take advantage of costly mistakes by Alfred State in the Western New York Athletic Conference Semifinals.  The Cougars advanced to the finals with a 11-7 victory while ASC finishes the fall season with a 10-6 record.

Baseball to take on Genesee

The Alfred State College baseball team will take on #2 Genesee CC in the semifinals of the Western New York Athletic Conference Championships.  First pitch of the contest will be at 11 a.m. at Genesee CC.

ASC downed #6 Mercyhurst North East 4-3 while GCC downed #7 Jamestown CC 11-4.

The Pioneers and the Cougars split a doubleheader on September 30.  GCC won the opener 9-1 and ASC won the nightcap 3-1.

Pioneers advance to Final Four

Alfred State used a four-run eighth inning to propel them to a 4-3 victory over Mercyhurst North East in a first round Western New York Athletic Conference contest.

Neither team could put anything on the scoreboard for the first seven and half innings.  Pioneer pitcher Aarol Elliott (Whitesville) and Saints pitchers Michael Jackson and TJ Tavender traded shutout innings.

Baseball Earns #3 Seed

The Alfred State College baseball team will be the #3 seed in this week's Western New York Athletic Conference tournament.  The Pioneers finished the fall WNYAC regular season with a 8-4 record and an overall record of 9-5.

The Blue and Gold will open up tournament play on Tuesday when they host #6 Mercyhurst North East.  First pitch of the nine-inning contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Baseball Team wins three of four over the weekend

The Alfred State College baseball team wrapped up the fall regular season by winning three of four contests over the weekend.  The Pioneers downed Jamestown CC 8-1 & 6-1 on Saturday and then split with Genesee CC, L 9-1 & W 3-1. 

The Blue and Gold will enter next week's Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament with a 9-5 overall record and a 8-4 WNYAC mark.

Pioneers split with Kats

The Alfred State College baseball team split a WNYAC doubleheader at Erie CC on Sunday afternoon.  ECC won the opener 6-0 before ASC rebounded to win the nightcap 9-5.   The Pioneers are now 6-4 (5-3 WNYAC) this fall.

In the opener the Blue and Gold scratched out seven hits but were unable to score.  Derek Speaker (Starpoint) and Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton) each finished with two hits. 

Erie plated one in the 1st, one in the 4th, and broke the game open wiht four in the 5th inning.
